Very good call St Mike. I think he could do a job or us . My only reservation is that "dutch temprament" . They seem to get a cob on very easily. :(

Sorry to go off topic must I'm just reliving the memory of being in the pub during the Euro 96 clash between England and Holland. What a great night that was, only eclipsed by England V Germany in the world cup qualifiers.

although beating the krauts was fantastic (thanks entirely to lfc players), the 4-1 demolition of holland was the best england performance i have seen in my lifetime. that dutch team were world class and we demolished them. the germany team we beat 5-1 was the worst german side for years.

it's coming home, it's coming home, it's coming, football's coming home! :)

He took Holland to world cup semis 1998. before going onto coach at Real Madrid (they finished 2nd and he was on his way again). He took PSV to 4 dutch league championships in the 80's and he won the league with them again last season after returning from Korea.
The more I think about it , this guy has all the right credentials.  :)

exactly. the guy has way more credentials than benitez, o neill or mourihno. the guy hasn't even been mentioned. everyone keeps jumping on the bandwagon of the "big three" so to speak. hiddink would be a superb appointment imo. :)

As weve gone international for a while i'd just like to add that my favourite memory was when Ireland beat Italy in the giants stadium, New York in the '94 world cup.  We had former reds including Houghton (goalscorer), Aldridge & Staunton (couldn't handle the heat) in the side.  McAteer came off the bench and nutmegged Maldini (his career highlight).  Also, during that world cup Phil Babb played alongside Paul McGrath at the back.  Phil Babb got great reviews for his performances but in hindsight my granny could have slotted in alongside McGrath and looked good.  Crucially, Roy Evans signed for Babb on the back of that world cup.....costly mistake.  In fact if we had a decent centre half in the mid nineties and if David James hadn't spent all his spare time playing video games we would have won the league in '97 and with a bit of luck snatched the cup in '96.  Makes you wonder if Roy Evans was hard done by ?????

Sorry to call you on this but Louis Van Gaal managed Ajax to European glory, not Guus Hiddink, and Ajax won the CL in 1995, not 1994.
