Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Stockport County's highly-rated defender Michael Raynes.

The 17-year-old former Manchester Boys captain who also represented Greater Manchester Schoolboys, made his first team debut as a substitute against Swansea City in December 2004 with his first start coming only a few weeks later on New Years Day 2005 when he produced a battling display during a 2-1 win at Torquay.

Sunderland and West Brom have also been tracking the combative centre-back who is contracted until 2007.

Hiring Souness as a manager will be the downfall of Newcastle. He won't last the season as eventually his entire squad will turn against him, with the fans already there and the board will follow soon. He's arrogant, single minded, childish and a sore loser. What happened between him and Bellamy, Robert and the feud between Dyer and Bowyer were all his fault and I can almost guarentee there's more of that to come. He was a great player, but he should have gone into commentating.
