We shouldn't expect too much for our fourth choice CB(third while Agger is out) but I am kind of excited to see how this guy plays.  We really could use an aerial presence in the middle seems like he's strong and a fierce competitor if what this greekster says is true, I'll happily welcome that into our squad which has quite a few mild mannered players.  I'd love another in your face no nonsense defender in the squad, as long as he can do the job.

I think very often the fans know best, and I'm heartened by the Greek lads' run down on this bloke. If he's a big strong bruiser who's good in the air, there's definately a place for him in our squad. You could even argue if he's upto much there's probably a place in our team come to that, what with Agger seemingly injured all the time and Skyrtel having his tendency to ball watch.

It's no surprise to me that the reports are that Rafa was looking to buy a centre back who was presumeably going to go stright into the first team (and nor is it any surprise that it was Upson), as we are weak there IMHO. I've been saying for a bit that I'm unconvinced by Skyrtel, and it's definately a concern that we are weak aerially both from the big target men in open play and from set pieces from clever players who work our zonal system.

Now whether this fella is up to Upson's standard is very doubtful, perhaps it's even unfair to ask whether or not he is given the tiny fee, but if he is decent and he can adapt, there are chances for him at Liverpool definately.

On the subject of Upson, when I suggested going for him for between 12-14 million a week or so back, one of the newer and more combative members on here rubbished the idea very strongly on the grounds he was worth nowhere near that. It's interesting to see the reports that we were prepared to go to 17 million for him, and true or not it now seems that Aston Villa are looking to pick him up for 12 and above. There is I suppose always the possibility that the bloke in question was right all along and Martin O'Neill and Rafa were wrong. The other alternative I guess is that he was talking out of his erse, and doing it an unecessarily rude way at that.

I live in Scotland and remember this guy from his time with Rangers. He must only be seen as a cover as a last resort as he is not the answer to us finding a replacement for Hyppia. If he keeps it simple then we have a decent (no more than average) Centre Half but it's a big "if" as he likes (or at least liked when he was at Rangers) to play from the back and was caught out with this many times when he played in Scotland. He cost Rangers a few goals/games.

I really hope he has improved a lot during his time away from the UK!!
