Dundalk wrote:DEAL DONE

Liverpool today agreed a deal with AEK Athens for centre-back Sotirios Kyrgiakos, subject to a medical.
The 30-year-old Greek international will arrive at Melwood for a medical examination before the weekend.

Rafa Benitez told Liverpoolfc.tv: "We have nearly done the deal subject to a medical. He is a player with experience who can hopefully help us in defence.

"He has experience in British football and Rangers. After that with Frankfurt and the national team. He's a good player in the air, strong and aggressive. We were looking for a player with experience.

"He will have the medical this week, it has to be before the weekend."

Does that indicate he'll be picked for the Villa game?

I am Greek and have been following the league and the NT for many years. Kyrgiakos is by far our best defender, maybe even our most valuable player. He never gets subbed, never gets injured, never gets left out ofthe squad, at any level. He is absolutely dominant on the pitch. Obviously the EPL is another beast, but from what I have seen and heard of him, he has been a favourite everywhere he has played.
He only missed euro 2004 because of a rare injury. On the road to euro 2008, where greece finished with the best overall record in qualifying and were also the first team to get into the finals, Sotiris played every last second. He also scored 2 cruacial goals vs norway which got us on our way.
He's one of my all-time favourite players, because he is a no-nonsense, hard tackling, great in the air defender with attitude. He is a player with influence, who leads by example. He has presence, and always seems to be involved in the play when danger arises. So many times he has saved his team.

For years now, I would ask why he wasnt playing for a bigger team. He was AEK athens' captain and without a doubt the best defender in the Greek Superleague. He's and automatic for our NT.
If you guys need proof, watch him vs Ibrahimovic in euro 2008. He completely shut him down, it took a special outside the box blast from zlatan to score. He was unable to get anything done inside the area. Kyrigiakos is very intimidating and even world class players give him respect and try to avoid a run-in with him.

Liverpool you have done well. Sotiris will be a fan fav and will soon become a regular in the starting XI, mark my words.

Good Luck Soto and Liverpool! you just found a new fan!

Some rangers fans gave me an insight about this guy, saying he is cr@p, wasn't even good enough for Rangers.

Doesn't look to good.... anyways good luck to the lad.

He grew into his playing style once he entered the bundesliga and started shining for the NT. He is good, trust me. He's the type of player who sacrifices everything for his team and is not afraid of anybody. He is a very proud individual and he seems to be honoured coming to anfield. He couldnt wait to le the public know. Watch him in any NT game, even in euro 2008 where Greece underperformed, he was still a dynamo on the field. Every panathinaikos fan was begging for him in transfer season, but he is not tight with our owner and they did not want to deal with eachother. He's even greece's highest rated player in FIFA 2009 (video game) :eyebrow

I remember a little while ago while still at frankfurt, he had just come back from a broken nose, and he wasnt at all hesitant to jump into 50/50 balls. He ended up breaking his nose for the 2nd time in his first game from injury and he refused to come off. Soto is a warrior.

Sounds good...... we need some help with aerial threats and an intimidating presence.....if he can provide it, all the better.
Welcome to Anfield, Soto
