So he made a mistake big deal. It's not like Fergus or Wenger have never made a mistake.

Anyway he always had 1 hand behind his back in the transfer market. Under NESV he would probably be backed to the hilt, as he should have done before.

I dont know. When you think of some of the players we missed out on because of a lack of funds, Daniel alves for one. We wasted a whole pre-season trying to sign him and ended up missing out because of 2 mill or the like, we could have got him for 10-12 mill, would have been a bargain. A lot of our summers were spent following targets for weeks and months only to miss out for lack of funds. IMO when he had the money for first choice he did well, Alonso, Reina, masch, Torres. Keane and Aquilani fked it but then I dont think either of them were top of the list buys.
Also you have to take into account the sell before you buy policy and the fact he was having to wheal deal to create his budget. Not a perfect sittuation when none of your rivals have the same problem.
Ive already stated at the time it was the right time to part,but a benitez with real backing from these owners would be a different proposition IMO. The only decent lump sum he was given was spent on Torres and masch, not bad.
I dont think there is any chance of a return so soon,but maybe one day a more experienced and hopefully successful rafa will return.
I`m sure there is a big part of him that see`s it as unfinished bussines and has already said he would like to return to the city he see`s as home.
I`m sure all you rafa haters can breath easy for the time being though.

I always thought he was the brains, SG was the power - a bit like chelsea where Makele and later ballack are the brains and Lampard the power. when I pointed out that SG and Lampard don't have much of a brain between them and England would lose to the first decent team they played I was crucified here.

Alonso is and always has been world class. If you want to put forward a claim that a club should sell him to PART FINANCE the brilliant gareth barry then please do so.

Exactly, if Rafa had been given enough to start with we wouldn't have to buy so many bargain basement subpar players. We should have gotten Simao but had to settle for Pennant instead. We were in for Vidic initially but then couldn't afford him so we went for Skrtel. And Keane probably would have worked out proper had we gotten Barry as well but well never know.

Hopefully we won't have that problem now.

Exactly mate.There were also rumors that he was thinking about a move back to spain or italy because the pace of the prem was catching him out.
All that was forgoten about however to favour the line rafa forced him out by trying to sign a player who also plays midfield. Never really got that personally but hey ho all water under the bridge now.

The whole Alonso ordeal was in my opinion Rafa's only blunder but it wouldn't have been so bad if the owners would have backed him up buying Barry. In my opinion they are on the same level and could we get some money in between it would have been nice. Alonso is extremly overrated but we have sured missed him because we have had alternatives.

He wanted to move back to spain anyhow and that's probably why Rafa wanted to make a move in advance.

He squandered 38m on a krap full back and an injury prone guy on loan in Italy.

I don't blame the yanks for not giving him money, you might as well just chuck it in the fire..
