Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Goodluck to Hodgson...an uninspiring choice by any standards.
Believe it will be 2-3yrs b/4 anyone will see Liverpool challenge for 4th much less trophies...unless the goal is simply not to finish 7th!
Floyd stepped left and threw the hook that caught Hatton flush under the chin. Finally, the British champ had arrived in that mythical place of which his fans speak: Hatton Wonderland.

I think Hodgson is an excellent choice and will bring a certain level of decency back to the Manager's fold. He's articulate, clever, dry; has a really decent record as a manager and may just be the chap who takes LFC forward on what will most likely be a shoestring budget. The negativity surrounding the news that he may be our next manager is bewildering! The club is in a really sorry state at the moment due to factors we all know about but at least we can all get behind the man who was voted Manager of the Year last season in the toughest League in the world!!!

Why? Why should that even f*cking matter? F*ck his credentials, he's British so that's instant success, eh?

maybe he'll have some passion we may have been lacking recently?
Maybe he'll give our youngsters a chance instead of buying shedloads of young foreign players

all ifs and buts mind you, but worth thinking about

What f*cking youngsters? What ones do you even know that are good enough to get in the first team. Name them. Benitez had a youth policy in plan, that plan went out the window. You don't just set up a five year plan like that and scrap it. Getting youth in takes years. It doesn't even matter their nationality, and if the performance of the English team is anything to go by, the whole English youth system has about 15 years ahead of itself to build on. The reason why foreign youngsters are being implemented into the EPL is simply because they are better and cheaper. That is it.

Roy Hodgson given cautious welcome by Liverpool FC fan groups

LIVERPOOL FC fans groups today cautiously greeted the imminent appointment of Roy Hodgson as manager.

They questioned who had made the decision to appoint the Fulham boss as successor to Rafael Benitez.

Others said some in the Kop will mourn the loss of a chance to see Anfield legend Kenny Dalglish back at the helm.

But they also called for  62-year-old Hodgson, who will now have to deal with a huge spike in expectations, to be given enough space to grow in to one of European  football’s top jobs.

James McKenna, spokes man for Spirit of Shankly fans group, told the ECHO: “It’s obvious we need a manager, but we have had a few weeks without decisions being made in the boardroom.

“A lot of fans are asking ‘who’s made this decision?’ Has George Gillett made the decision or was it Christian Purslow?

"Who with a footballing background has decided that Roy Hodgson is the right man for Liverpool Football Club?

“Christian Purslow was meant to find a buyer for the club – but what qualifies him to make decisions about who’s going to be the manager?

“And what support is he going to get from the boardroom? The past shows that there’s been massive tensions between the manager and the boardroom.

“There’s a real worry that it’s been done more to steady the ship, rather than push the club forward again.”

Les Lawson, 47, secretary of the official LFC supporters  association also said: “I think there will be a mixed reaction from supporters with regards to his appointment.

"A lot of supporters would have liked to see Kenny given the opportunity again – someone who’s got Liverpool blood running through his veins and who’s managed us successfully before.

“What he achieved at Fulham would have been unacceptable if he achieved it here – there’s more expectation.”

Personally I think I speak for a huge majority of Scouser's (YOU KNOW THE PASSIONATE EMOTIONAL ONES ) when I say disappointed ,dejected ,disillusioned ... and thoroughly dismayed over the choice of Manager........ Purslow should have a price on his head

Good luck to Hodgson.........has my full backing as any other manager of Liverpool now that he is appointed.

Just ride the storm and hope those two clowns upstairs go quick like the rest of us hope...then you can have a real chance of showing us what you can do...and bring an end to this god-awful mess we are in.

The dig was already made when a poster I have very little time for composed a thread excluding over emotional posters
It was the actions of a shitbag and it served its purpose well Daws....... because at a time when the board was shall we say at serious loggerheads and everyone was at odds with each other this little gem was exactly what was needed wasn't it  ???
and if you look at the posts in that thread the originator contributed less than anyone else in other words he (Stood back and let the fire spread )   I say it like it is Daws and I admit when I am wrong and I am equally as forthright when I am correct
and sometimes that emotional response is smashed into a keyboard with little regard for how it comes across (One of my many foibles I am afraid) but I will never apologise for my abrasiveness if it is for the sake of the truth and to shake posters and fans out of their slumber
I thought you held the same traits Daws ???

I do RBG, i say it how i see it, as you know.. but there is more to this than we know. Its like jumping ship before the anchors even been lifted... Emotion is good, but at theis point preseason we need a level head to look at what is happening. I cant stress enough that we WOULD NOT sign a manager from another club unless we had funds or new owners in place... it would make no sense at all. why waste the money when we could have Kenny for free?

Any appointment would have been met with caution considering you are following a popular manager in Benitez and then challenging Dalglish to replace him. I cant think of a manager that we could have appointed that would have suited, heck even a manager with a record second to none Mourhino was being heckled as a potential successor. Bottom line is the people are generally hacked off with the owners and want the club sold so anything they do is just food to have a pop and let off steam. Im not saying thats not understandable but I think its led to an over reaction on the appointment of Hodgson. Lets just see how things shape up in the next month as players filter back into work and we start to get more details of who will be staying and going and the squad starts to take shape for the new campaign.

I think Kenny would have persuaded Torres to stay and Gerrard would definitely been tempted to play under the King plus Dalglish's name alone would have enticed players simply with the promise of playing under a true Liverpool Legend ...
I expect the owners would be banking on Hodgson having less of an allure mate

oh, and you've heard Torres and Gerrard are leaving?

I think the owners would have loved Kenny to be in charge, it would save them a few million, and ive noticed they dont like spending money..

I just think there is something going on mate.
