my mate who lives in dubai was over here last weekend - he was telling me some of the stuff that this dubai leader bloke has done - stuff like bringing in equal pay for workers (regardless of whether they're from) and lots of other little bits like putting limits on annual rent increases on housing. i don't know a thing about him really but little things like that suggest he's probably not a bad bloke

its sad that football's come to this, but ciggy's right - we can't compete at the top as we are, we need to modernise and get hold of some serious wonga before we fall even further behind and become less attractive to top players looking for a move

I'm starting to warm to the idea, a little, I just hope we do not end up like Real or Chelsea.

I love the way our club is run at the moment but we are desprate for money for new players, Rafa will be able to buy his first choice player, instead of his 4th or 5th choice.
These guys will want a return on their investment and will want their money back and make more of it.

Not by buying players to sell, not with the new stadium for gate reciepts but make Liverpool the biggest club in the world, yes we are very successful and known worldwide, but they will sell merchandise worldwide.

Get thousands more fans supporting us worldwide in far away countries, sponsership agreements with big companies, and an enormous TV deal with Al-Jezera and the likes.

We dont have to turn into Chelsea but it would be nice to have atleast 5-6 world class players in the team instead of one, we are falling further behind the mancs and Chelsea, for the sole purpose that are current players cant match them over a period of time.
We need to be as rich as Man U, Real Madrid and Barca even though we are as famous as them we are not richer, and we should be a club of our size and the stature we have around the globe.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

I can see where you're coming from, it will be strange having a board who do not share the same love for the club as us fans do. I don't care what these people say I very much doubt they were/ are Liverpool supporters.

its being suggested that Moores could relinquish his stake, yet retain his position. also a fly in the ointment (as yet to be confirmed either) is that the valuation was lowered to £170 million, with £200 million earmarked for the new stadium and the repayment of £80 million in debts...no provision is guaranteed for transfer funds in the next window...... ???

im sure they'd offer Rafa a massive transfer budget...
The way i see it, the only reason Dubai Holding would want to buy Liverpool is commercial reasons...
If they wanted to invest money, im sure they would have found better prospects than Liverpool fc.
Loaded people with lots of money to give away.. wanting to raise their profile worldwide.

Dubai will buy RedsDec 4 2006

Exclusive By Chris Bascombe Liverpool Fc Correspondent, Liverpool Echo

LIVERPOOL Football Club is set to be taken over by the investment arm of the Dubai government, the ECHO can confirm.

Control will transfer into the hands of the world's fifth-richest man, whose personal fortune dwarfs that of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.

Barring a last minute hitch the stunning deal worth around £400m will go ahead in the next few weeks, taking Britain's most successful football club into a hugely exciting new era.

The takeover, which should ultimately delight supporters, represents a remarkable coup for the club and for Chairman David Moores and Chief Executive Rick Parry.

Both have worked tirelessly to ensure the Reds receive the huge injection of cash they need, from the right partner who understands Anfield's history and traditions.

The deal will fund the building of the Reds' new 60,000 seater, £200m stadium in Stanley Park, clear the club's £80m debt and bring significant funds to develop Liverpool on and off the pitch, enabling them to continue to compete for the world's top stars.

Dubai International Capital is today embarking on a process of due diligence at Anfield examining details of the club's financial affairs before they sign the ag reement.

Provided that proceeds without a problem, the takeover could be concluded either at the end of this month or in the New Year.

The club is unlikely to make any statement until it feels the time is right.

However, the Reds' battle for investment is now all but over following talks with DIC - a company which owns Tussauds and the London eye and which is linked to Dubai's ruling Maktoum family.

The Maktoums are one of the world's richest, owning the Godolphin Racing stables as well as governing one of the most rapidly developing, oil-rich countries in the modern world.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum is Prime Minister and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates, as well as the Ruler of Dubai.

With an estimated personal wealth of $10bn, there are only four men on the planet with more cash than him
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

ivor_the_injun wrote:What happened to Robert Kraft's mooted "interest"? I read quite a lot of stuff about him last year and had secretly been hoping it'd be him that'd end up making the takeover bid.

I dont think he had enough funds to finance the stadium as well as players. Kraft was part of a cash injection deal which isnt good really.

I liked the part where they say this guy is wealthier than Abramovich. :D

I cant see Chelskum dominating for much longer.

"even the Russian looks like a pauper when stood alongside the UAE royal family, who are ultimately the power behind Dubai International.

The wealth of the Emirate states is measured in trillions, not billions.

Their pockets are deep, and if a successful Liverpool Football club becomes their ambition, their financial insecurities can be consigned to history"
