How on earth do we manage to do anything at all if thats the level of communication in this club?

A more likely scenario is that we had to sell Carroll to buy another striker, but noone wanted to pay the price we demanded for him. We sent him on loan and gambled on getting dempsey for a low price. When that failed we didnt have a plan b, and no time to think of one.

according to a journo from the bbc mate thats what happened, there was a breakdown in communication between the owners and rodgers, the transfer budget they gave him included wages but rodgers wasnt aware of that fact.
you said it best yourself mate - how on earth do we manage to do anything at all if thats the level of communication in this club?

why didnt the owners or ayre tell him?  rodgers must think the whole thing is a right f**king carry on, his head must be spinning.

Disagree, given all that's gone on a LFC in recent seasons as the NEW manager I'd be doing due diligence on EXACTLY what my cash spending limits are, if Rodgers head as you suggest is spinning it's maybe because he's suddenly remembered that in his rush to become part of the legend that is LFC he didn't bother to read the small print in the conditions of contract.

When are people gonna stop making excuses for this fella ? so far as far as I'm concerned he's done f'uck all to elicit our unwavering trust in his "ability"

Disagree here.

None of us know what really happened - who knew what at what stage or what was promised to who and when.

He MAY have done due diligence as you said. He MAY have been lied to. We dont know.

But - No manager wants to weaken his squad deliberately. Why would Rodgers loan carroll out if he wasn't promised funds to secure a replacement?

Yes carroll doesnt fit in his plans - but a carroll on the bench is better than no one. From his pressers, I'm sure he wanted a minimum of 3 senior strikers (his preference was to swap someone for carroll, but not to lose carroll without anyone coming in

As time passes by these seems like a bunch of lies.

They have supplied funds, but not enough. They probably do have the resources to compete with anybody in football, yet they don't seem willing to use a small portion of those resources to help Rodgers's plan and there was the fiasco with Agger potentially being sold to make way for new signings.

I will see what happens this season, before casting a set-in-stone opinion of FSG, but so far I haven't been overally impressed and I don't believe they have the know-how or the guile to run a football club.

This is like the Parry/Rafa battles of a few years ago when the club wouldn't pay extra to get the likes of Simao or Alves and similarly in August 2008 when the then owners refused to pay at least £18 million for Gareth Barry.

It says a lot that for most of the summer Dempsey was going to cost around £8-£10 million to be able to leave Fulham yet on deadline day itself Fulham were happy to do business at £6 million with a team who finished fourth last season.

I wasn't ever convinced that Dempsey would have scored 18 premiership goals for us this season had he signed but regardless of that fact we'll never know now. If a player at the age of 29 signs for £6 million and gives two/three years good service getting into double figures in the premiership every season and helping that team to challenge for the top places I'd say it's worth paying that money even if he is 29.

Whatever the reasons for the failure of the deal or any misunderstanding that went on sooner or later over the next year the club are going to have back Brendan Rodgers far more productively in the transfer market if they want him to be able to build a squad that can challenge in the long term.

Once again you show little understanding of the real world. They probably do have the resources but that doesn't mean they're foolish with their money, nor, having trusted Kenny/Comolli and watched him burn a serious amount of cash in the space of a few months, are they likely to be so naive again as to let an unproven manager spend another 100 million until he demonstrates his system works and he knows how to correctly identify, value and buy players.

Just because FSG has a big dick doesn't mean you have to show everyone.

Just watching the prematch for today's game against Arsenal. They have estimated we are saving about £500K per week through offloading our expensive fringe players. £25M per year!

Bloody hell

You misunderstand me Reg, I am not for one moment suggesting that FSG should start bankrolling the club in the same excessive manner that the owner of Chelsea and Man City have.

They backed Dalglish last season, for sure and unfortunately a majority of these players were overpaid for and what made that worse was that these players didn't deliver. They sacked the manager and brought their own man and they haven't backed him like they did with Kenny and that's unacceptable. We had to offer a straight player swap with Fulham for Clint Dempsey and then we offered player plus cash while Spurs swooped in and signed him for £6m-7m. It's not on.

Problem is Reg if the manager doesn't have the funds to make his system work then how will he justify that in FSG's eyes that his system works? ***** to that I say. Look at any of the successfull teams of the last 10 years here - Utd, Chelsea, City. If a player doesn't work out, sign someone else.

If FSG have the money they need to show it, unless they want us to fall behind further which will make the rebuilding job harder. I really don't understand their actions in this last window. It's not like Rogers was asking for the same budget as last season. He only probably wanted 1 or 2 more players, 1 of which - Dempsey he could have got for 1 mil more than they bid. I think they have seriously dented the teams hops of re building this season, not to mentioned gone down in estimation in the eyes of some fans.

Now look at today. Who is there on the bench? Where is the depth? We have become a sell before you buy side again and we will never get back into the top 4 with this mentality.

Unless we get an unexpected windfall with a free agent coming, basically we are fu'cked. FSG cannot expect miracles and must support the man they brought in for at least two seasons.
If they arent willing to invest then they cant complain if we arent succsessful

The least we expect of them is to back their man. And Rogers was their appointment. If they don't back him properly then what does that say about them. They are either not serious about us trying to progress or have lost the plot. Just because Kenny/Comolli ***** away a lot of money last year how does making Rogers and this team suffer solve anything? That's what I don't get. They said when they came in we didn't have to sell to buy and they could compete with anyone. Once again it appears we have been duped by some ***** American's with absolutely no idea how to run a football club.

People say we can't expect them to bankroll the team season after season. Well newsflash, it's 2012 and this is the only way a team makes progress, with money. Am I wrong to want my team to improve and challenge for honors?

Ultimately you get out what you put in. And at the moment we are firing blanks.

I tend to agree with this. Today wasn't great at all though Downing and Shelvey did ok when they came on.

FSG have to answer for their own mistakes with Comolli and his recommendations in respect of the players that Kenny brought in.

Until we stop playing sidways football in front of the opposition which doesn't hurt them one iota we will never be successful and it doesn't matter whether it's 4-4-2, 4-3-3 or any other system that any manager tries we have to be quicker and cleverer in our passing and movement to open up teams and score goals - simple.

What ever happened to hiring a DOF? or a 3 man expert panel to help the manager?

Why did the owners decide not to go with it? they were so adamant before!

Lets look at some facts:

- We spent around 20mill net in the market this summer and seemingly had a fair extra to spend going by what Rodgers insinuated regarding new signings that didnt come off. (Only owners to spend more are those of ManUtd, ManCity, and Chelsea)
- Last season we spent 40mill net in the market and added a significant chunk to the wage bill. (Only ManCity and Chelsea spent more)
- All of this with no CL, lower gate receipts than most other big clubs, and no significant success in the past few years.
- The owners forked out 35mill on A.Carroll. Logically, they more than anyone would have been desperate for him to become a success at the club. To suggest that they wanted to save 3-4 mill in wages this season by sending him out on loan while knowing that they'll need to spend 2-3 times that amount to bring in a replacement is ridiculous. The manager wanted him out, and he pushed for it. The lack of a contingency plan isnt their fault either. Thats what they hire managers and directors of football for.

With all of that in consideration, I think there are a number of people we should be looking at before pointing the finger at the owners. Rodgers, Ayre and to a lesser extent Kenny and Comolli all played a much bigger role in the mess we find ourselves in. How anyone can sit there and honestly suggest that the problem is the owners not pumping money into the club with them authorizing close to 150mill in player purchases over the past 18 or so months is beyond me.

The owners are not rich and they virtually finished their funds after Dalglish's flop signings last summer. I thank them for saving us from going into administration and funding us with 120 million last summer which showed they were sincere in helping Liverpool. But if they are going to continue to be this impoverished with no funds to sign good players esp. strikers, then the next best thing they can do for Liverpool now is to sell the club to someone who can provide us with the funds to help BR out.
