Morintes will sign - From the horses mouth

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

FERNANDO MORIENTES says he has already bought an English dictionary and expects to use it when he signs for Liverpool next month.

The Kop side, who have been chasing the Real Madrid striker since the summer, are in talks with the Bernabeu club.

But Morientes’ agent Ginis Carvajal insists Newcastle are the only team to make a firm bid. So now the Spanish inter-national hopes Liverpool will match Madrid’s £7million valuation.

Carvajal said: “Everything depends on Real Madrid. I haven’t seen anything in writing from Liverpool.

“I know they spoke with Madrid and the initial amount did not satisfy the president.

“But within the right price frame the feelings of the player will be a priority. That is important.”

That is good news for Liverpool as Morientes favours a move to Anfield.

Morientes said: “Yes, I am going to England — I have decided.

“I will go to Liverpool and for many reasons. The main reason is the coach, Rafa Benitez, is Spanish and knows me perfectly which is worth a lot for a professional.

“We have asked Real Madrid to make a fast solution and I don’t want to expand any further, except to say I am already looking through the English dictionary.”

What about the 4 english clubs who were in for him ? it would be good if he signed but will he go straight into the first team when Mellor and Pongolle have done so well. If we do sign anybody next week we won't be able to play them against Norwhich which will mean if we sign anyone and play them they will make there debuts in the fa cup against Burnley :)

let's be honest, he would only seriously contemplate Newcastle other than us, and they are 14th and already have Kluivert, Bellamy and Shearer, so we can guarantee him a lot more first team football.

Villa and Everton? you're havng a laugh.

I got this from skysports but they would say that wouldn't they i hope its true that we signed him.

Aimar was quoted in the Daily Star as saying that he liked the idea of playing in England with The Reds, but the club have issued a statement suggesting the reports were not accurate.

"The club has been in touch with Aimar, who has said that he has not made any declarations to English newspapers," reads the statement on Valencia's official website.

"Nor has he given any interviews in the past few days."

The Spanish champions also said that quotes from a club spokesman, Agustin Morera, claiming that Valencia had received an offer of €12million for Aimar were also completely false.

The Mestalla outfit explained that the story originally appeared on another website called foroche.com and that they had invented the quotes from Morera.

Aimar Denies Wanting To Leave Valencia
12/29/2004 10:07:00 PM
Pablo Aimar has denied that he wants to leave Valencia and claimed that he has not spoken to anyone from the media about a move after reports in England stated he wanted to join Liverpool.
The Argentinian midfielder was contacted by Valencia after the quotes appeared in the Daily Star newspaper in Britain and he was quick to tell the club the quotes are not his.

In the story Aimar was quoted as saying that he was unhappy at Valencia and would love to join Rafa Benitez at Liverpool.

"The club has got in touch with Aimar who has said that he has not made any declarations to any English newspapers nor has he given any interviews in the last few days," a message read on Valencia’s official website.

The Spanish champions also said that quotes from a club spokesman, Agustín Morera, claiming that Valencia had received an offer of €12million for Aimar from the Reds were also completely false.

The Mestalla outfit explained that the story originally appeared on another web page (foroche.com) that invented the quotes from Morera.

On Valencia's official supporters site this news has appeared: Late on Monday evening, a formal offer for Pablo Aimar from Liverpool FC has arrived at Valencia's office in order to sign the player in January 2005.

This has been confirmed by Valencia official, Agustin Morera. "The offer made by the team coached by Rafa Benitez is formal and firm, and is very much near the 12M Euro mark."

In the next hours, there will be an urgent meeting of the Valencia CF board to speak about this matter, the continuity of Aimar depends exclusively to Ranieri who if guaranteed a similar substitute, Aimar could be leaving Valencia in a matter of hours.

seems like we have put in a bid then. :)

Do you have a problem comprehending things? Have you read why Morientes wants to join us? Mostly because our manager is a Spaniard now last time I checked Mourinho and Wenger werent Spaniards.

Benitez knows Morientes the best and Morientes wants to play for Benitez, not for Wenger or Mourinho. Plus Mourinho said that he will not buy any players[especially strikers] in January. Wenger has also stated that he will not be involved in the Transfer Market as he thinks its a waste of time.
