From teamtalk.com
Fernando Morientes has revealed he would welcome a January transfer window switch to Liverpool after admitting he is frustrated at Real Madrid.
Spanish international Morientes fears the return to form of Michael Owen will push him down the pecking order at the Bernabeu - hastening a move to the club Owen left in August.
Reds manager Rafael Benitez is a confirmed admirer of Morientes, who reached last season's Champions League final while on loan at Monaco, and is keen to beef up his attack in the January transfer window.
With a Spaniard at the helm and a string of compatriots on the Anfield playing staff, Morientes believes he would fit in easily on Merseyside.
He said: "The return to form of Owen can be excellent for Real, but it is also a new problem for me.
"Liverpool could be a great option for January. I have always liked the Premier League and I know Rafa Benitez was interested in me when he was at Valencia."
The 28-year-old, whose goals helped Monaco knock Madrid and Chelsea out of last season's Champions League, added in the Daily Mirror: "My situation at Real Madrid is not pleasant. If things continue like this I will have to think about leaving. I am tired of sitting on the bench.
"Liverpool is a club where any player would be happy to play. It is a club with a history of having great supporters, a good coach and now Spanish players."
Benitez gave a clear hint yesterday that Morientes is on his shopping list. "When a player of the quality of Morientes talks about your club, then that has to be good," he said.
"I really can't say any more than the fact that Fernando is a very good player... but I guess I know what the headlines will be!"
I soooooooooooo hope he comes to Anfield, he has shown he is world class and a proven goal scorer, I just wonder how much he will cos as I think this would be the main factor in the deal.
