Milan out - We're running out of strikers

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby andy_g » Thu Nov 18, 2004 9:27 am

so milan tore his thigh muscle last night and he'll be out for about 6 weeks. bad bad bad bad bad news.

so what do we do? we have 2 strikers left - mellor and sinama.

do we rely on them? use one up front and use kewell or garcia as a supporting striker or 'in the hole'? panic and get into the loan business quickly (people are already mentioning heskey - jeeeeesus!!)?

my views:

mellor has been playing well in reserves and scoring goals recently and so has plenty of confidence, which is what every striker needs. sinama, i think, looks lively whenever he comes on as sub and needs games and a couple of good chances. i'm sure he can shine.

i think we need to show some faith in these guys now. bringing them on now, with support from the returning stevie g and nunez, could give us 4 top strikers by the time cisse and baros are back.

i would go for sinama up front, kewell just behind, nunez on the left, garcia on the right. kewell and garcia can comfortably switch roles giving defences a real headache. with stevie g and alonso (magnificent last night by all accounts) behind all that i think we can beat many teams.

we're gonna beat middlesboro at the weekend with these guys.

I think we are screwed without Baros. Its certainly going to impact on our results because the other guys are not as effective. We just have to get on with it but theres no doubting its terrible news. Heres hoping we can hang in there in all competitions until January.

Really ****** with 2 things :

1)International friendlies - Why do the czech wanna play baros who just retured from an injury in a friendly match ?

2)Transfer deadlines - If the **** uefa didn't stick their noses in this league's transfer regulations. rafa would have bought another striker by now........

It was a world cup qualifier.
Smith to Shankly:My thigh is a bit sore, but I think I could play.
Shankly to Fagan:Tell him,Joe.He has got no chance of playing.
Smith to Fagan:Tell him to sod off.It is not his leg,it's mine.
Shankly to Smith:Oh no son.You are wrong, son. It is not your leg.
It is Liverpool Football Club's leg.

I think if Baros is out for 6 weeks then this make or break for Mellor and/or Pongolle. Now we will get the chance to see what these two boys are really made of.

Mellor is 22 and if gets his chance he has to take it or he will have no future at LFC, Pongolle is 20 so he has to at least show he is capable of competing and making an impact at this level.

I think we should start with Mellor, because we will get to see if he is good enough to play in the Premership, he can't have much serious development left in him, so if he can't do it now it is unlikely he will ever do it.

Sorry pigcatcher, we're selling him to Stockport County in January.

If Milan is indeed out then we have major major problems. Pongolle and Kewell is the only answer for me with some witch doctor going round Nunez's house and getting him fit sometime this century. Mellor as I've said before just isn't up to it in my opinion.

The strike partnership will be Kewell and Pongolle.

i think with cisse out for the rest of the season and now baros out the best option would be to sign a new striker
