Beside the Hillsborough Flame, I heard a Koppite mournin, "Why so many taken on that day?" Justice has never been done. But their memory we'll carry on. There'll be Glory Round The Fields Of Anfield Road

Away  Middlesbrough
Home Man City
Home Arsenal
Away Hull
Away Wigan

I can see were they could get 2 draws but thats only 4 points.

5 live! :D

Don't they also have villa at home? And one other game. They have a boosted GD because they beat Stoke 5-0, WBA 4-0 and 5-0, even beating them 4-1 made only a slight dent in that (despite being a six GD swing in our favour)

Let's look at who Man Utd have dropped points to this season

Lost : Liverpool (home), Liverpool (away) and Arsenal (away)
Drawn : Newcastle (home), Aston Villa (away), Tottenham (away), Chelsea (away), Bitters (away)

We're only the second side to take points off the mancs at old trafford this season and only members of the big four have beaten them so there isn't much scope for them to drop points at home or overall.

Man Utd 08/09

vs Top Six : P8 W2 D3 L3 PTS 9 (Won 25.00%)
vs Rest : P20 W18 D2 L0 PTS 56 (Won 90.00%)

So much for any who feel the theory games against 'big four' rivals is the key, they showed the 'big four' mini-table on SSN and MOTD and we're way ahead of the mancs. I extended it to the top six because sides in that group have taken most points off the mancs.

Liverpool 08/09

vs Top Six : P8 W5 D3 L0 PTS 18 (Won 62.50%)
vs Rest : P21 W12 D7 L2 PTS 43 (Won 57.14%)

Who is more likely to drop more points? We can't afford to, simple as. We have to play Arsenal and villa at home, we didn't beat either of them at Anfield last season. We also have to play spudz who we haven't beaten this season, Hull away, travel to West Ham who beat us last season and so we need to pick up points where we didn't last season AND hope the mancs drop points that they haven't looked much like doing this season (against most of the teams)

Anyway, the game mirrored last season in a way - the red card came with the eventual winners a goal ahead and they added two more. I thought the mancs had a case for the red card being a tad harsh as another defender was "goalside" of Gerrard if not directly in his path, BUT it was a cynical foul and deserved red for that alone (in my book if not in the laws)

It was a good fightback, I feared the worst when they bought a penalty and we were looking a bit shakey at the back. Reina has had better games, fortunately so too have Tevez, Rooney and Ronaldo - and the manc back four! They didn't tightly mark Torres and Gerrard which I reckon cost them, not quite the space Madrid allowed us, but enough for top quality players to make a difference. Good finish by Torres, clear penalty and close cut finish by Gerrard for the second. I was still too nervous for words, I thought Ronaldo would do something, if only run at Carra on a yellow and either skin him or get him sent off. Red card for Vidic sealed it, thought we'd done well to hold them off to that point and thereafter I relaxed a bit.

I thought Hyypia was immense, Lucas didn't settle until late into the game when it was all but over, Gerrard and Torres were the difference. Had they not dragged us back into it then I think we could have lost 0-3 again. I think the doubts crept into the mancs after the second, like at Anfield when they scored it didn't look anything but a manc win. I think this might make a revised list top five performance for this season.

Had to love the stat put to Phelan after the game, that the mancs lose 20% more games after a European Wednesday than after a European Tuesday. Rafa gets mocked for his stats like that! Another is that was their heaviest home defeat since QPR beat them 4-1 back in 91/92 - the mancs didn't win the league that season, a side beginning with "L" did! But do bear in mind the Edwin Starr song lyrics that may become true by the end of the season if/when we don't win the league :-

Four.............One.........yeah................What is it good for? Absolutely nothing*

*"one" instead of the huh, you'll know if you know the song.

MOTD did an analysis of Rooney's piss poor display, he spent a lot of time being Ronaldo by waving hands in disgust when things weren't going his way.

I wonder if he hated every minute of it  :D

Aurelio is coming on leaps and bounds I have to say, the amount of times I've called for Rafa to handle Aurelio is countless. It indubitably appears that I have called that wrong, over the last month or so Aurelio has impressed. Humble pie my way, just hope he stays fit. He looks the defender I thought he wasnt.

Mascha, Hyypia, Skertel, Torres, Aurelio and Kuyt were the outstanding players of an admirable bunch. It just goes to show that our set-up and tactics suite the European matches and the 'bigger' games domestically.

Loved Gerrards celebration, and the five finger salute of Torres .... Brilliant. :D

Hey he came on and he still has a gob on him even shouting over quinny but he did give us credit for battering them, he's not big on vidic right now though.

But really wonder how loyal ex players are to the pool as Saunders is still on about all United's "guns" and liverpool are still mainly Torres and Gerrard besides the fact it was a good team performance.

Also his free-kick was a perfect demonstration of why we should let others take set-pieces, instead of having a "Beckham in the side" mentality of letting the ego in the side take them all.

Brilliantly taken, I doubt that wouldn't have gone in even if Vidic had stayed on the pitch. I wonder if fergie regrets making three substitutions at once, it wasn't as if they were two or more goals behind at the time.

and if they end up winning the league, the bit i've highlighted in bold is why... they won a staggering 90% of games against teams outside the top 6. our record is 57% which simply isnt good enough

Utds next four fixtures are against teams fighting for survival. I wouldn't want to be playing any of them at this stage of the season.

Our result against Middlesbrough is even more sickening knowing that we could have been 1pt behind Utd (4pts at worst after their game in hand).  I still can't believe we lost to that pile of sh@te, what an embarrassment.

How on earth can we do the double over Chelsea and Utd yet draw twice with Stoke? We should eat teams like Stoke for breakfast especially at Anfield.  It has to be a question of tactics against the lesser sides, it's obviously not the players.
