I've noticed he really doesn't play well when there is no movement ahead of him, which was the case against Braga.  Neither him or Raul were any good but I don't really blame either, I blame the rest of the players and our two CBs and Wilson.  None of them wanted any part of the ball and always looked for the quickest hoof available.

I think he may have done considerably better if Meireles and Rodriguez hadnt been contesting the world camouflage championship ....I might be wrong but I get the impression the Lad would have been under the impression there would have been a team mate ( FELLOW MIDFIELDER  ) within 20 yrds of him helping him out from time to time   .....just a thought like .....

While hes not good enough, the one that does irritate is that he hides (giving the observant Ray Houghton credit for being the first to bring this up). When the lad makes his customary short nothing pass, he thinks his job is complete...and rather than immediately run into space to be open to recieve the ball again...he strolls along and is hidden behind an opponent. Hes the most passive player i can think off. Less open players, play breaks down, possession lost.. no midfield control. Thats been us for almost 2 seasons. Possession stats have nosedived.

Its one thing not having sufficient talent, theres nothing he can do about that... but having the intelligence (or balls) to constantly make himself available is something a clogger in the local park can do.

I thought he did okay against Braga and wasn't our worst player by any means. But that's all Lucas is, occasionally okay - it's not really good enough though. He'd be an ideal squad player not a starter like he is week in week out.

Lucas has become a tidy midfielder, reasonable efficient and reliable. He moves the ball on with minmum fuss, keeps the game ticking over, tackles, puts the graft in. The problem is that whilst all this is well and good Liverpool need just that bit more to move on. Its not that Lucas is desperately poor, its just that to compete at the top end of the game we need equal or better players than our opponents and quite frankly in his position Lucas will be equaled or bettered against 80% of the top flight/euro teams we play. There is no room for sentiment or donning the blinkers, Lucas can be a cover player here, a squad footballer, but if we are going to get the show on the road he will need replacing with a better model theres no question about that.

Noticed that. He's powder puff.. cannot tackle for toffee. Also noticed that this "box to box goalscoring midfielder" (quote: rafa) is now being called a defensive mid.  Failure at being able to do what he was bought for.. does not mean he is something else (ditto Kuyt, hes a failed striker not a right sided midfielder).

When the Blackburn player (samba?) bullied him and then threw him to the ground at Anfield...i felt sorry for him (no bigger insult). Passive individual. Lucas is a Fulham, Bolton, Blackburn calibre player (and his pursuiters Stoke).. and if we were facing him we'd be very confident.

Hiding is not immediately making yourself available. Tomorrow at Sunderland... watch lucas, almost sacrifice watching the game.. just watch him. He will make a pass.. and then walk beside (often behind) an opponent. The subsquent player in possession then has no options, dispossessed.. play breaks down. Ray Houghton was among the first to spot this with lucas...and he termed it hiding. When Alonso made a pass... he instantly scampered into space to be open to recieve it again. He took control, dictated midfield...lucas has never done that..yes because of his lack of ability (which is why he will end up at a Fulham, Stoke)... but also because hes a passive individual who hides on the field. The damning thing with us is we have no one else, so until the summer, he will play.

Do see your point...ie.hes just not very good. But on top of that, because hes aware of his lack of talent, he avoids 'attempting' to take control by not constantly making himself open.
