While Liverpool are to officially announce their tie-up with Abhijit Kadam Memorial Foundation for a Football Development Centre in Pune, Goal.com’s Mohammed Bhana caught up with the club’s commercial director Ian Ayre and spoke on the importance of the Indian market...

Back in January this year, Ian Ayre had visited Pune and made his thoughts on the Indian market public as he revealed of the club’s joint programme with the vice-president of Western India Football Assocation (WIFA) Vishwajit Kadam to come up with the Football Development Centre (FDC).

The link-up was facilitated by Kick Worldwide’s Steve Bellis.  The trio of Ayre, Bellis and Kadam had met in September during the Soccerex Convention in a debate titled ‘Developing the game from inside and out – the importance of emerging markets.’

Goal.com’s Mohammed Bhana gave his thoughts following a chat with Ayre at Anfield about three weeks back.

“This is not your conventional link up. Liverpool are intent on promoting the game of football at grass roots level and want to encourage people to take up football as a profession. Be it s a referee, coach and much more.

"The launch in Pune is going to be very high profile. I was very impressed with what Ian Ayre had to say. The club have obviously done a great deal of research and Pune is the obvious place to launch such a project,” said Bhana, whose book ‘Asian Liver Bird’ was released by Liverpool a few months back.

Vishwajeet Kadam conducts an annual football tournament called Abhijeet Kadam Memorial  Invitational Tournament for the last five years where some bigwigs of Bollywood are seen slugging it out on football fields.

I'm waiting for the "Liverpool delay Football development centre" thread. Citing global conditions as the reason. :)
