Kuyt instead of owen?

Interesting turn of events

Source:LiverpoolFC.tv

  • Rafael Benitez today admitted that Dutch scoring sensation Dirk Kuyt is a player who interests the European Champions.
While the media have been linking the Reds with a move for former Anfield star Michael Owen, Benitez today spoke of a different striker altogether - Feyenoord's Dirk Kuyt.

"Kuyt is a good striker," Rafa claimed today at Melwood. "He was top scorer in the Dutch league last season and he is a player we have been looking at. Maybe he is cheaper than other players but we'll have to see what happens."

On the subject of Milan Baros's future, Benitez said: "Baros at this moment is our player but he might not be in the next two to three days. We have had a very good offer from Lyon and another offer from Aston Villa. The player himself wants to stay in England so I would say Aston Villa are closer to a deal."

i'd rather see owen back! he's already proved he can cut it in the premiership. we can't really afford another gamble on an, unproven in the english game,  striker.

Dirk Kuijt is a very versitile player though, he is a forward a winger, midfielder and can even defend. I have been raving over him for months, i would LOVE him at liverpool he is a proper Liverpool type of player.
he even starts training 1 hour before the rest of his team at Feyenoord, hows that for mentality :;):

spot on reds. if the circumstances were different then maybe i would say dirk kuyt as not only does he scores lots of goals but he creates alot too however with our striking situation the way it is now we need someone who will guarantee us the goals and MO would do that

It would be interesting to know what people who have robustly defended Cisse (the footballer not Lynds) would say about Baros and Cisse out, Owen and Kuijt in. My suspicion is that the change around could be done but would cost a prohibitive sum of money, probably in the region of 9 million quid. I think it's also reasonable to assume it would make us much stronger. It's such a shame we have spunked so much money over the last few years that we now arrive in a situation where even when a deal is obviously a good one, we are too skint to take advantage.

On saturday he begged feyenoord to let him go if the right offer came in for him, and not to be putting stupid price tags on him.
He said it would be a dream to play for Liverpool as its one of the most amazing clubs in the world.

well if he's so versitile maybe we should just get em both...then play kuyt on the right wing

We might as well keep playing Cisse on the wing.

It's interesting because the Spurs have been strongly linked with him in the past few days. Kuyt could probably fit Rafa's system and tactics better than Owen.

I reckon kuyt and owen could be a great partnership as kuyt can set up goals too, is creative and can head a ball so we've already got morientes' main quality in this player as well as other things. At the same time though I think that an Owen Ciise partnership could really fourish as we saw a glimpse of in last years pre season and become devasting as defenders will have all sorts of problems knowing that they'll have to mark two extrememly pacey forwards.

I wouldnt be dissappointed if we got Kuijt instead of Owen, or both infact its not out the question but Rafa seems very determined not to let Owen just waltz back in, I think he just doesnt see him as someone loyal, escpecially when Owen had no faith in him last season by leaving to win the Champions League.
Dirk Kuijt would be a better striker than any we have at the moment Cisse included.

How can we not find the money? ???

You have to speculate to accumalate and we're not talking a bottomless pit just signings that would guarantee to make us better.

Moore's put your hand in your wallet - let's get Kuyt & Owen

:grinning:

well i think i'd go for an owen kuyt partnership...but that would mean sellin baros....maybe shippin cisse out on loan to improve a bit. then when he comes back, morientes will prolly be on his last legs and contimplating a move to bolton. it all works!
