its more to do with the build up to the game, if it was a  CL game or a top 3 team game Rafa would spend 6 weeks thinking about how to play the game and what team to use, Rafa's mind was not on this game, it was set on the CL game.

he did not study the other team as much as he should of and he did not account for the extra 50% effort that the other team will put in as they are a lower team. it would have been.

" this team will do" " go and have a run lads , thats all we need to do to win this game".

How many excuses will you all make up for this guy. Ok her won us the European Cup and FA Cup and blah blah blah. You cant keep harking on old times in his defence. We will never win the league under Rafa unless he is given an open cheque book next season.

I can't believe that a ex-Liverpool players would say somethings like that.  He talks like someone who doesn't know very much about football.  This was freaking Barnsley we were playing, that team should have won the game easily without Gerrard and Masch.  I don't think that anyone including him though that the team Rafa put out would loose to Barnsley.

Frank Lampard 81
Salomon Kalou
Claudio Pizarro 85

No Cech, Carvalho, Cole, Ballack, Drogba, Anelka in the starting lineup. They played a weakened side against a League 1 side but they won. That's why they aren't criticised for it.

Chelsea also have weakened sides that include Kalou, Mikel Obi, and Shevchenko.  Even if Rafa picked his best XI, it still would have included KUYT

Its Tommy Smith now but they will all be out of the woodwork in the coming weeks.

When its over and Benitez departs its the players turn start spilling the beans on where its all gone horribly wrong.

Lets be honest the players must be sick and tired of his chopping and changing and switching positions but they cant speak about publicly right now.

the difference is that that "2nd string" team of Chelsea's is probably still stronger than our first XI. When you have a squad with that much talent then you can rotate, Rafa does not have that strength because he has bought too many sh1t and average players players but he doesn't realise it himself.
Bottom line his team should have won but why take a risk in the only cup you have a good chance of winning this season, he's an idiot, he should have played his first XI and if one of the players gets injured then so be it at least we'd be in the quarters of the FA Cup with good morale leading up to the match with Inter!!

Barnsley raised their game by 50% rode their luck and scored a killer goal. rafa was guilty of underestimating a championship side. my fear is that if lfc fail to capitalise on a world class player like gerrard they will continue to go backwards. Benitez was badly let down by the players yesterday but he must take sole responsibility for this result as if havant and waterloovile wasn't a big enough warning. championship teams are no mugs and rafa paid the price of not respecting them.

That didnt happen 10 years ago.

We were in the Champions league Final NINE months ago.

Even Wenger had a bad season last year and I remember some Arsenal fans calling for his head.

Where are they now.

Top of the league thats where.

IMHO yesterday was a freak result and in another day we could have won by 5 but it wasn't to be and good luck to Barnsley.

putting aside all thats gone on this season maybe its just whats happens from time to time in the F.A cup and teams from lower leagues beat a prem team, Everton lost at home to Oldham, man u lost at home to Coventry in the other comp.

sometimes, yes sometimes these things just happen without taking everything else thats happened in a season into account.

Hey, you know the old saying: opinions are like a$sholes and all that. But because it's an ex-player coming out and saying it,the words are invariably taken like polished pearls of wisdom and must be true. Well, I too have an opinion, and my opinion is that he's talking bollox.

Absolutely, and that's becuase we have been bollox all season. For the best possible chance of beating any team and that includes Barnsley, we have to put our very best team out and for me that would even have meant risking a 95% fit Torres. I feared all week that we would lose and thought about betting on it but I didn't wanna go down that route again  :sniffle

well smith is spot, i also watched macmahon and grobelaar  on tv on Saturday night pretty much saying the same things, the older players are saying it as it is, but no doubt the pro rafa fans will claim they ex pros know nothing about football

Mcmahon really "gave it" to rafa... You can see he was really pi$$ed.....couldn't even give his views on the manure vs arsenal match which was coming up later....

Maybe i should put this down in "mushy-mushy" language so that it will get through certain individuals....

Ok.....changing to new-age metrosexual man mode.... here goes... tok to the hand not to the face..... :talktothehand

What the rafa guides don't understand is that the ex-players and the "its time for a change" clique really do care about the club. We only care about the club.....and not the feelings for a certain individual....

Sure...rafa's heart will be broken...yeah...sure. His feelings matter.... But this club is bigger than 1 individual...

I am sure he will get another job in spain where he will excel.... and he will look back at this period as some bad hair day or broken finger nails experience....

game.....set.....match  :rasp

Isn't the public bagging of Benitez what started this rut?
