yet another game where he was pretty much a passenger until he got subbed. Its past the stage where we can keep giving him chance after chance hoping he could miraculously transform into a top wide player overnight. We have better options, and to be perfectly honest its about time we started looking past his price tag.

Pay 16mil for someone and then loan him out?    Ace I think it's clear you have it in for him.

Thought he done ok today, played his part. His passing accuracy was something like 94%. And exactly who are our better options on the right?

Maxi who Kenny is obviously not trying to rely on as he is old and Kuyt who never goes forward but instead passes sideways or turns around and passes back? 

To be honest it's time people stop moaning about his price tag
and whether he is setting the world alight. He is still a kid, something I think people are forgetting.

I suspect if we end up getting 4th and going on a decent FA Cup run people wont be coming out with such garbage. The least you can do is give him till the end of the season, or is such patience no longer afforded to new arrivals? Or maybe you just don't have faith in Kenny's way of doing things? Either way your wrong.

He was by far the worst player on the pitch today. Complete passenger and didnt do what was required of him as a wide player.
All jokes (your post to be particular) aside though, if we are going to utilize him on a wide role then hes going to have to offer more in terms of attacking contribution at the very least. So far, hes offered very little in terms of crosses, off the ball movement, and certainly dribbling (which like it or not stretches defenses and helps create opportunities). I know hes not that the type of wide player to take a man on and whip it across goal but surely theres something he offers down the flank that warrants him being given the role besides his linkup with Lucas and his reliance on Kelly to provide the attacking threat ?

Its funny you bring up Maxi and Kuyt as inferior players in your defense of Henderson.. Says it all really.

other way round at the moment imo. have been at lastt 2 games and watched hendo play it back/safe more than kuyt.

TBH Id stick him in the centre with Adam/Lucas and put Gerrard wide right. But that aint gonna happen.

We already have enough problems in the middle as it is, but I agree that the only place I can see him potentially starting or doing well is a central midfield role.

Despite the fact that Maxi and Kuyts best days are behind them (which I agree with to some extent), they are both miles ahead of him in terms of being wide players ATM. In addition, its not like we are preparing him for a future as a right wide player. Im yet to find one person who thinks he makes/would make a decent option down the flank.

With all said, the club is at a stage where we NEED to get back to playing CL football and competing at the top level before falling further behind. That for me implies starting the best players available for the respective positions and Henderson under that assumption simply doesnt make the cut. He's had 7 games or so in the starting lineup where hes consistently failed to impress imo. He'll surely get more chances, but imo it should be in cup games, coming off the bench, or in case of injuries.

In Downing, Kuyt, Maxi and Bellamy we have 4 wide players who offer more at both ends of the pitch than Henderson does.
The whole loan thing is obviously not going to happen (again, mainly because of the price tag) but imo it would be the ideal situation for both the player and the club. He gets regular starting football at a high level where he develops as a footballer without all the pressure and without us having to fit him in the starting 11 somehow to try and justify his signing in the short term.

Hes a long term signing, that much is clear.

I actually wouldn't mind loaning him out. He needs game time, but not here he doesn't.  He's had one good game so far against Bolton, and that's it.  Now that Stevie's back, we can either put him on the right or (more preferably) Switch him for Adam and put Kuyt on the right.  Kuyt's good to have in the team, and he's way more productive then Hendo.  Kuyt get's himself involved while Hendo seems to hide away, afraid to make mistakes.

It is evident that he is playing without confidence and this sink or swim strategy by Kenny will do more harm than good. the best thing we could do for the lad is to bench him and do what we should have and ease him into games. The guy is a completly different character to Carroll, and he seems nervous, but also he has been here for a very short time.

I believe that once he feels part of the team, club and set up we will see him do well, and a few months watching Gerrards drive and confidence, Lucas' discipline and Kuyts effort will give him a measure of what's expected. Playing on the right side of midfield is not really the problem it's having the ability and vision to swap and interchange positions, which will only come with time and feeling comfortable in your surroundings.

Kenny needs to bed these kids in yes, but that doesn't mean that Hendo should be an automatic starter on the right ahead of Kuyt and Maxi whilst displaying the kind of form he's showing at the moment.

Henderson should start the odd game, come on as a sub in the odd game, but not start every league game - which he has done.

Bellamy, Kuyt and Maxi all offer more than Henderson on the right at the moment. Best days behind them? - maybe so, but that doesn't mean a thing if Kuyt could contribute more to the first 11 than Henderson, which I believe he can at the moment.

When the ball comes to him its like a hot potato, he just lays it off first time every time.

That's not enough, he needs to be looking to do more and influence games more.

He shouldnt be in the side at the moment.
Price tag is not relevant, the likes of Kuyt Maxi and Bellamy all looked lively on Weds and should be in the side ahead of him.

Like a few have already said he should be sub and coming on being eased in until he can justify his place in the team.

True, but there is no evidence Kenny won't continue this sink or swin strategy. He has shown with all HIS new buys that they will play as he banking everything on it.

I actually quite like Hendo so far.  I agree that he shouldnt be starting every week and that he is not confident but Ive seen some signs of potential.  He can bang in a decent ball from the right, he got a goal against Bolton and got himself into a position to score against Stoke.  He also hasnt done too much wrong yet either. 

Shouldnt start every game but he has potential to be a good player.
