Newcastle manager Graeme Souness has confirmed his interest in Liverpool's Sami Hyypia.

The Magpies chief is desperate to add an experienced defender to his squad and the Finn is an obvious attraction.

Liverpool have offered a new deal to Hyypia, but he has not yet signed on which has given Newcastle some hope.

However, Souness has revealed that he is not willing to give Hyypia a long-term deal.

"I do admire Sami," Souness confirmed.

"But I think he wants a three-year contract and that's not something we'd be willing to do. But I do like him."

What does he mean by "He wants a 3 yr contract?"

Is he talking to other clubs?

rafa wouldn't let sami go.
rafa even said that sami was one of the key players this season.
we are trying to sign centre backs not sell them!

It's a big doubt Sami will leaves and Rafa will sell him as he's one of the key player for this season to challenge for the title.

Hyppia won't be going anywhere. He was a crucial factor in our Champions League win last season. If we do sign a new CB this season, i can see Hyppia playing fewer games in the prem though.

I can't see Sami going anywhere. He's a good defender and for the fee we would recieve (2 million) we wouldn't be able to replace him.
