Terrible news. How many season ending injuries have we had this season?

Season from hell; virtually all the signings have now suffered serious or semi serious injuries : this lad Jacquet (70m Euros defender in France); out til next year; Isak out for 5 months, Leoni out for a year... Ekiteke .. 9 months....

Yeah, and don't forget Connor Bradley and even Endo both out for the season. I fear the most for Bradley and Leoni, ACL injuries to two young players just starting their careers and both may never reach their potential because of it.

Ekitike case is not much better, he will probably be out for most of next season. Even 9 months is very optimistic for such an injury IMO, hope I'm wrong of course.

Feel for the lad will miss World Cup. We will probably see him back next Jan. It is like we're fekin cursed or something. I think even that lad Jaquet is crocked also.

Anyhow hope Hugo has a speedy recovery and comes back stronger. Sadly after an injury as such you just don't know if he'll be back to his peak self.

Where did you read this? It looked like an Achilles injury. Not good but better than an ACL

Bradley will be fine mate, although he got a long term ligament injury iirc the ligaments he damaged werent the Anterior ones, he'll recover fully. Isaks broken leg is the same, no long term effects. As for Hugo and Leoni though, whilst sports science has come a long way since the 1950's and 60's when the likes of Brian Clough had to call it a day at 26 because of an ACL injury even today players are never quite the same once they kop for one of those fvckers. Look at Virgil, he adapted well but he was never the defensive God he was before his injury.

Upon further research a ruptured Achilles is almost certainly going to have permanent effects on speed and spring (acceleration) not good for his future. He’ll have to change his game.

I know we are talking 30 years ago and science has moved on but a ruptured achilles is what ruined John Barnes and turned him from a flying winger into a centre mid plodder.
Hugo has got the physique and close control to re-invent himself as a Teddy Sheringham, Chris Sutton get it down and hold it up type but its a huge blow for the lad.

I cant recall a season where we had so many bad injuries to players before. Plenty of players out with minor issues and knocks but not so many with severe injuries. I wonder how much training they do has effected that because one of my gripes with this season is how unfit the players are. 70 minutes and half of them are spent.

Anyway feel sorry for Hugo with it being a WC year and all.. Hope he recovers well and is back for start of next season.

It could be the issue. With Klopp our constant running meant we got a lot of muscular injuries. A lot of hamstring injuries, calf and thigh injuries etc. The thought was that Klopp ran his players into the ground. Last year we played more controlled football and the players didn’t run anywhere near the same and last year he had hardly any injuries. This year maybe as an extension of last has had us had our worst year for major injuries (mainly joint injuries) that seem more about a lack of strength than over running.

It could just be bad luck but the number we are talking about means there is certainly an issue.

Yeah under Klopp the players got worked hard and often to the point they broke but overall the fitness of the squad was much higher. We where the envy of Europe in how fit the team was and how hard you had to work against them. We had grafters who would run for 100 minutes as they where relentless. Other clubs struggled with that more than us having a wealth of superstars.

Last year Slot did slow it down to about 70% of what it was with Jurgen but this season its about 40%. We look to be one of the most unfittest sides in the league where players are wiped after 70 minutes and unable to sustain pressure either end. That extra yard just isnt there when we need it. That makes us go from the dominant side in control for 90 minutes to patches here and there. When we need to up it we simply cant as some have nothing in the tank and in must win games like City and PSG that becomes the difference.

Two different management styles where one suits the league and the other doesnt. I know which style I prefer!!

Yeah you guys make some good points. It looks like that with lowering the intensity we achieved exactly what we were looking to avoid and that's having a big amount of injuries.

I've been saying for a while that even if our players want to up the tempo they simply can't because high intensity has been trained out of them. That's obviously a coaching approach and Slot has got it wrong. But I think it might be even worse than that, I think Slot doesn't even know how to raise the players' fitness levels. It might not be his decision to slow down the tempo but rather his inability to train the players to play at a higher tempo. Last season it worked because Klopp's training was still fresh with the players but now they haven't been training like that for almost 2 years and they won't be able to get back to that level because Slot simply can't get them there.
