Gerrard injury - Broken metatarsal

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby jonnymac1979 » Mon Sep 20, 2004 10:17 pm

Just heard on Sky Sports News that Gerrard could be out until Christmas.  A scan on his foot has shown a broken metatarsal.

Now we'll see what we're made of.  Imagine three months ago if someone told you we couldn't play without Owen and Gerrard.

Welcome to the reality.  I'm interested to see how we're going to do, in fact, quite looking forward to it.  I think tonight in the second half, although sufferung a defeat that we WILL get over quickly, we showed that we do not have to rely on Gerrard after all to run matches for us.

Did you not see Alonso demanding every ball, every set piece?

I'll say it again, now we'll see what we're made of.

Alonso was the positive from this match. Let's see how we prepare for games without Gerrard. Better sooner rather than later...you know what I mean!

We will adapt to the loss of Gerrard and we will get over this.  I'm convinced of it.

For some reason, tonight's defeat isn't filling me with the same dread I usually feel when we've lost.  True, it wasn't a very good performance from us, especially in the first half, and we definitely need another goalscoring striker and a pacey defender.  Shame about Woodgate moving to the also-rans in Spain.

But I'm convinced we're going to get it right.

My mouth dropped open when i hear that news. It's still open.

Which ****** in red tonight trod on his foot then? Might've been an accident, but there were a lot of late studs going in that Poll didn't notice.

Why the ****** do Utd or Arsenal never lost their best ****** player for 3 months of the season? It seems to happen to us every year.

I think we can overcome this Alonso played extremely well, and nearly bagged him a beckham style goal. Now imagine if he had scored that, woulda wiped the smirk off of Fergie's face.

spot on jonnymac

I for one think that the hamann/alonso partnership did very well.

honestly, i personally felt that SG was a non-entity even before he got injured.

anyhow, this little spell without any 'star-players' will be interesting and very telling of the long-term future of the club.

Having Alonso and Hamann in the engine room wont be a bad thing. We have to learn that we are not a one man team anymore and this would only have spelled trouble in a GH Liverpool team and not Benitez's!
