Dudek or kirkland - First choice

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby jymbojetset » Tue Aug 17, 2004 9:03 am

This has been touched upon in other posts, think it needs post of its own.

Who's first choice?

Watching Sky Sports last night, Rodney Marsh was saying about Dudek how slow he is about distributing ball, compared to say Schmeicel (you know the one!). Never thought about that, but he's right.

Do you think, RB wants to get his defence sorted before trying CK, or should he be doing it all together?

Kirkland is better but always injured, especially for a young guy.

I must have seen this post about a million times.

I say Dudek but Kirkland is not far away, if Dudek can stay fit and not make ****** up mistakes such as the Forlan Double last year, hes ahead of Kirkland in my books

well... i would certainly pick Kirkland... his shot stopping abilities are as good as anyone in the league or europe... And he does not make silly mistakes or lose concentration like JD... we should start playing the future England No. 1 ... i certainly dun wan to see James there for too long

I think Kirkland still has more room for improvement such as his timing when coming out of the crease. Until he gets there, Dudek is a safer bet.

Kirkland need to stay fit then he would be my number 1.
He comes from Spain and he doesn't speak good English,
But we don't care cos he'll turn us into winners,
The European Cup will be ours before he's finished,

kirkland. believe me he will be england's number one for the next 10 years if he can stay off the treatment table for more than 5 minutes. i played against him when i was 15 at school and even then you could tell he was gonna be top class. a few months later he was snapped up by coventry city.

It migth sound like a silly question but did he play in goal that day StMichael?

I only ask because a lot of professional keepers played outfield until they were 14 or 15.

yeah he did although i wouldn't be surprised if he started off as a striker or something. even at 15 he was going on 6 foot tall. it's just a shame he seems to be cursed whenever he manages to get the number 1 jersey back. :(

I remember him at Coventry and some of his goalkeeping was superb.

Dudek is no. 1. And as much as you guys like Kirkland, he needs to move on if he want's to get first team football and develop as a player.

Selling probably England's best goalkeeper is not a very good move in my book?? ??? Imagine if Benitez made Kirkland available? First on the phone would be Arsene i reckon?

Dudek is a good keeper, but he is prone to making gaffs, I know some good keepers have done in the past, but Dudek is seriously dodgy. He was also beaten on the near post on Saturday, the cardinal sin for Keepers.

Kirkland will be the No1 for England soon, but he has a real problem with injuries. He needs to keep fit for a full season before he can think of himself as a No1 anywhere.

Its good news for Liverpool though that we have two real good keepers, it will keep them both on their toes.

Sorry to say this, although my favourite national team is the English team but Kirkland although will be  the no.1 GK because we do not have any good English gk. In my opinion, the last great GK we had was Peter Shilton. Even if Kirkland is No.1 in England doesn't mean he is better than the other GK. But I'm sure he has the potential to become a class on his own. Just sorry to see him injured so often. But at of now, I think Dudek is still better.
