As i was watching the game on Sunday, i suddenly realised - i actually don t like Cisse! I m not just talking about as a footballer, but his attitude on the pitch and the way he goads the opposition supporters, which i first noticed against Newcastle and he was at it again yesterday. Now imo he s been a real letdown as a striker and i think for the best part he s friggin useless, so winding the opposition up aint gonna help him none. In fact it seems to me he s fast becoming a member of the Robbie Savage club to the oppositions fans.
I reckon that he s become an arrogant who thinks he s better than he is. There.

What do people think Juve fans were saying about Ian Rush when he went their?  The great Ian Rush who was a natural but struggled so badly at Juve.  However that did not make him a player.

And no I am not trying to compare Cisse to Rush just using an example that even the great players struggle some times.

Djibril Cissé is turning into one of Liverpool's greatest. Of course, I mean greatest enigmas.

Good find puroresu and some good points made by Mr Tomkins.  For those that dont know, Paul Tomkins writes regularly for the offish site as well as some independent sites and I recommend reading his articles as they are usually well balanced and offer some good analysis.

Its interesting that none of the Cisse bashers have disputed any thing in this particular article (yet!)

FWIW I thought CIsse played reasonably well against Blackburn particularly when one considers what happened last season at Ewood Park.  It takes some mental strength to be able to play effectively at all under such circumstances IMO. 

Had two good shots on target and was unlucky not to convert both with only two good saves from Friedel and some desperate defending by Nielson (sp?) kepping the ball out.

Cisse show good first touches in bothe these cases and was aware enough to not play the ball and allow it to run through to Morientes for Fowler's goal. The 'not-offside' decision was spot on in my view as although Cisse went to play the ball, as soon as he realised that he was offside he clearly stopped, stood still and raised both hands in the air.  You can't get much more inactive than that!  Blackburn committed the schoolboy error of not playing to the whistle and paid the price.

When Harry came on Cisse showed good vision and intelligence too with one deep cross from Garcia I think sailing way over everyone's head and heading for the corner flag, Cisse didn't give it up as a lost cause (as most would have you believe he does) instead he chased it down and played a cute reverse angle pass to Kewell in space resulting in a dangerous cross from the Aussie.

Even with his shortcomings he was able to find space and opportunities to trouble Blackburn far more than Bellamy bothered us.  Despite what the next few posts will say, that's not soley down to the superb play of Hyppia and Carra but also because of Cisse's mobility and movement to make the run and find the space in the first place. 

Of course Cisse can play a whole lot better that he is but Tomkin's article suggests some valid points as to why that's not happening.  Everyseason needs it's scapegoat and player for the fans to vilify. Last year it was Kewell now it's Cisse. How come no-one's bagging Fowler for fluffing that left footed volley in acres of space on the edge of the box?

I'd have to agree with jonnymac1979 on Cisse....the way he goads the opposition and acts up, i have just about as much time for that carry-on as I do for Robben and Drogba.....both of whom make me sick (not as much as Savage tho' ).....I don't recall LIV players from the past carry on like that, and quite frankly, it makes me want to switch channel

The biggest problem with Cisse is not anything of a footballing nature, it's simply that our fool of a previous manager paid 14 million pounds for him. That's why I suspect he will still be here next season, basically because nobody wants him enough to make selling him an attractive proposition, particularly given that he can play wide right of a fashion and given the fact that he does posess that sprinkle of searing pace which can turn a game every now and then.
On the question of Bellamy, I've posted up a couple of times that I think he is a serious proposition. He's developed into a fine player, has pace and skill in abundance and whats more can finish aswell. This "well I personally can't stand him" is something of a red-herring in my opinion. I'm firmly convinced that Souness was probably the most disliked player in the league when he ruled the midfield, similarly Keanne when at his snarling and combative best but no serious football fan would dispute their value to the team or turn them down as a player if they became available.
The only rider with Bellamy is whether he would disrupt a seemingly harmonious dressing room. To this one I would also be doubtful. It takes two to tango and Rafa has an iron grip over proceedings and any manner of sulking and histrionics isn't going to change the Spaniards mind, just ask Cisse if you don't believe me on that one. Bellamy would have to produce the goods and keep his petulance in check or a certain Robbie Fowler will glady step from the bench and take over on a regular basis.
The simple economics of modern football are that we can't go and bid for E'to or Shevchenko because we simply can't afford them. we either have to take a chance on a slightly less proven player, maybe a youngster or two in the hope that they have slipped under the radar of the Chelski player accumulators. The other alternative of course is that you take a calculated gamble on somebody with a dodgy temperament, somebody with undoubted ability who is hungry as a yard dog and possibly a top player just waiting to happen. Bellamy could just be that player.

Yeah, as poor a player as he is, I like his attitude the way he winds the opposition fans up and gets ours going.  It's very redeeming, if not enough to make me want to keep him on the playing staff.  I still think we can do a lot better.
