CHAMPIONS LEAGUE LAST 16 DRAW - Real Madrid vs Liverpool

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Dundalk » Thu Dec 11, 2008 11:40 am

This will take place in Nyon on the 19th of December.

We finished first in our group so we will play a second placed team.

Teams that finished first

Roma
Panathinaikos
Barcelona
Liverpool
Man Utd
Bayern Munich
FC Porto
Juventus

Teams that finished second

Chelsea
Inter Milan
Sporting
Atletico Madrid
Villarreal
Lyon
Arsenal
Real Madrid

We cannot draw another English team in this round or a team from the group we qualified from which leaves:

Inter Milan

Whats the odds on us getting a visit from Jose? They are flying high at the top of Seria A and although they had a dodgy group stage they would be one to avoid.

Sporting Lisbon

The Portuguse are currently 3rd in their domestic table and qualified second in their group a point behind Barcelona with 12 points.

Villarreal

2nd in La Liga at the moment and they play good football and have some very good players. They finished with 9 points behind Man United in their group. Would be a tough draw.

Lyon

A Champions League regular who always seem to make it to this stage. Not as strong as they use to be and IMO would be the best draw to get. Currently top of Ligue 1.

Real Madrid

The big team with loads of money and still cant get anything right! Ramos in charge now and might be one to avoid because you never know what to expect from them.

We will play the first leg away on 24/25.02.2009 and the second leg at home on 10/11.03.2009

If Arsenal draw Bayern, Man United draw Real, and Chelsea draw Barcelona, I wouldn't be bothered if we drew Inter.

It aint fecking easy from here on in!
Thats a pretty minging selection of teams to pick from but you'd obviously love to avoid Inter and Real.
Saying that I have every faith in Rafa in the C/L..its his home.I dont fear any team.I know its a cliche but you have to beat teams like Inter and Real to win it so why not now.
I :censored: love the C/L from the last 16 in.There are some massive League games but its not the same as the C/L with everything riding on one game or sometimes just one goal at times.
Class...best tension and excitement in football!
Hopefully we can experience a bit of tension in the League at the end of the season, cause it will mean we are up there!!

Id love to get Inter. Two reasons.

1.) Maureen, I cant stand the smug git !

and

2.) Even if we lose, it gives us better preparations for the League while the others are putting out there best teams in order to do well. This year the league is an absolute must, either we win or make absolutely sure united dont.

Id like to think we can but united have a better squad and more experienced players like Scholes, Van der Sar and Giggs to see the younger players through, we cannot boast to have the same credentials and nor can arsenal or chelsea for that matter.

Bring on real madrid. Really though doesnt matter who we draw up against. any team on thier day could win. Whenever we face strong opposition we always seem to play better so bring on anyone i say.
