Alonso- We all saw what happened to the club after he left.  Amazing how much a player can do while racking up almost no stats, but he got the attention he deserved.

Torres- He did break the record for most goals in a debut season, and I honestly believed he was better the C Ron that year.  His 2nd and 3rd seasons where really good as well.  Even when injured for large parts he still scored 18 goals in 24 games?

Reina- Saved our @ss more times then I care to count.  Last years POTY for both our club and the league in my opinion.  Easily the best keeper last year.  Harder for him this year but he's still one of the best, if not the best.

Hyppia- Great defender, added solidity, deserved to be captain, and acted properly when it was given to Stevie.  I hope he comes back to the club when he's done with Leverkusen.

Suarez- Have to agree with you MH.  Other than Torres, Suarez is really the only player to hit the ground running like this.  The difference is he switched form the Dutch to the prem, not the Spanish.  It would be a very hard transition for 99% of the players in the world, and he's done it with flying colors.  Expect to see a lot from him in the future and won't be surprised to see him win Prem player of the year next season.

All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

Going back further Jan Molby was a hell of a footballer. Lets say he had his moments, a colourful career at Liverpool, but he remained a true red over many years and played a significant role in our success. Alonso can pass but this fella was at least on a par with his range, he couldnt have knock that ball about even when he piled the timber on in his later years  :;):

One player who was fantastic and I think a free transfer was Markus Babbel. Such a shame that his LFC career got cut short.

Hyypia probably gets my number 1 vote, a true Liverpool legend

Sorry, 2000 onwards! :D

1 Torres ( a joy in first two seasons)
2 Alonso ( only has molby passed a ball as well at anfield)
3 hyypia (colossal at the back !)
4 Gary mac ( inspirational and showed a young Stevie how to boss games)
5 didi ( der kaiser say no more)

I know Torres at one upsets some, but the lad was a worldy in first two seasons. Not the first judas and won't be the last!  I have a feeling mr reina might just do the unthinkable in the summer.

If where honest with ourselves its gotta be Torres, he was/is one of the worlds best players and had God like worship at one point.

hyypia for me...loyal and always solid. Best defender i've seen in a red shirt since Hansen

Modern day Liverpool Legend. As for Torres, not a chance. And there are people being honest, he was good but our best foreign player? no way.

Not taking into account the British Isles......

The best foreign player to ever play for us, is Sami closely followed by Molby, IMHO.
Of that, there can be no doubt in my mind.

Of the Spanish contingent, I place less emphasis as they generally weren't here for long enough..... Even Alonso who is one of my favourite players of recent times, doesn't quite cut it..... Brilliant in his 1st 2 seasons.... dire in his next 2 and then showed what he was capable of again in the last season he was with us.

Sami was an absolute colossus as was Molby. Both were never blessed with pace (truth be told, they were pretty slow) but had more than enough quality to still boss the games in spite of that often over-rated quality that we deem so necessary these days.

Wonderful players, true reds.
