Once his plan goes out of the window he seems at a loss

Rafa is scared to play him this is the Alonso replacement remember and if he plays him and we still fail to do well Rafa can't use the get out of jail card saying we don't have our new wonder boy yet.

I am miffed with the Aquaman situation and the guy must be himself. Normally when you get 5,10 then 15-20 mins in a game as a sub it means you are closer to getting a start but not Aquilani.

Maybe rafa has seen something in him he doesn't like...

- Ability to pass forward from midfield? I mean that wouldn't help us would it?
- Goal threat from midfield? Nah we are scoring plenty goals at the moment ???

Maybe it's his haircut or maybe he has made pals with Babel.

WAIT WAIT WAIT

I have sussed it out....

Rafa is saving him as he doesn't want him to get injured. He wants to use the sale of Aquilani in January to generate funds for new players  :idea

A bit of a joke playing Dossena instead of Aquilani to be honest even though it was still very late in the game.

Cant see him starting against Everton.

IMO and as much as I would like to see him start I don't think the Merseyside derby is the place to make your debut. He would be targetted as a potential weak link and taken out early on I reckon.

He'll be out with a sore :censored: before long from sitting on the bench. He's been on the bench in each of the last four games, fit enough to potentially play some part, yet has only seen TEN MINUTES of action. I think the "we can't risk him in that game", "he can't make his debut in.............." is starting to wear a bit thin. Either he is fit to play or he isn't, end of.

People on here have defended the signing, but we paid £20m for a player who missed the first couple of months through injury and is now missing because Rafa won't 'risk' him. Have we got ourselves a Ledley King, so f in fragile that the manager will wrap him up in cotton wool and we'll effectively only see him maybe half the time he's actually not injured.

Let's wait and see if Rafa comes out with the "crucial", "important" or "must win" game line that we've heard so much recently, and if he backs up his words hot air with ACTION and puts Aquilani in the side. Maybe Lucas isn't THAT bad a player, but he isn't exactly a match winner and creative genius and the side needs better balance than six defensive players and four attackers of whom Kuyt is out of form and N'Gog is of questionable quality.

I can't see him doing that. We have no chance of winning the league and we are out of the big time in Europe for this season. The only thing left to play for is 4th place which I suppose is important but even if we make it there if we carry on the same we will be back here come this time next season.

Doom and gloom bav is back everyone!!!

Bav we HAVE to make 4th place otherwise the club will fall to pieces, first thing that happens will be Stevie and Nando demanding transfers along with Mascha if he is still around. We might loose reina as well. Well I guess that will help us out financially but we will then become a mid table team as no other qaulity player will come to us untill we get some billionaire to buy us out ala Man Citeh

Given Aquilani would potentially be making his 1st start in the EPL I would say yes, Lucas is a more solid option to start in the game this weekend.

Well I disagree with you.

That's fine, this is a forum for opinions at the end of the day.

I just can't see Rafa putting him in this weekend for a massive derby game where it will no doubt be (more than usually) hectic. Not the kind of game to introduce a new foreign import who's had little first team experience.

That being said we've yet to hear if the injury list has been extended following last night and maybe Rafa's hand will be forced and he'll play Aquilani.

I would be delighted to see him start on Sunday but I a) can't see Rafa doing it and b) think the lad would struggle in this particular game/atmosphere.

Play him against Everton and they will surely try and take his ankles off.

But I would rather that and risk him, than play Lucas anymore.
