He certainly looks likes a good player technically, you can tell that from the way he addresses the ball and the ease at which he flipped that pass into Degen's path. He also looks like a natural dribbler with the ball at his feet (he showed a couple of glimpses of this in the reserve team game) and we've lacked someone who can carry the ball (from that central two) as neither Alonso, Masch or Lucas have that in their locker.

On the whole, I was impressed, was gutted we couldn't take it to extra-time so we got to see him play for another 30 mins. I wonder if Rafa will stick him on the bench at the weekend? I'll be excited if he does but it might make sense to give him 70 mins in the reserves.

The best passing midfielders log where their options are better than most which comes across in the ease of their passing and it does with the Italian. OK, it's only 35 min's of play but the impression I'm left with is that he might be a bit of a cross between Alonso and Rosicky; excellent technique, very intelligent, reasonably nimble and mobile and so overall able to open up the play from a greater range of positions.

i'd pretty much agree with that. you can tell that the guy is excellent technically.

The lad has had a good encouraging start and hopefully he can push on now and establish himself .

Spot on. The guy is carrying the hopes of many that he will be the saviour of our season, a superstar performer, an immediate success.

Whereas I hope all the above are true (obviously) I think we shouldn't expect too much too soon.

Anyway we have Lucas who is coming onto a game now  :Oo:

I like what I have seen so far, but I think it is very very early to start proclaiming the new messiah!

I was thinking this morning, how do you think Rafa is going to use him when he is fully fit.  Rafa has always liked to play with 2 defensive midfielders and I dont think Aquilani is one.  Does that mean we are going to see a change in the way Rafa sets up the team.

Will we play with just Mascha protecting the back 4 or is he going to ask Aqualani to play more defensively which might be a bad decision...

                Reina
Johnson  Carra   Agger  Aurelio
                Mascha
     Kuyt     Gerrard  Aquilani
                Yossi
                     Torres

Would be how I play it but I think it is far too attacking for Rafa
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

i thought he looked good last night.
tackled well and showed us 1 or 2 nice passes and that he has desire to play.
looked really out of breath at the end so reckon it will be a few weeks before hes able for 90 mins.
hope to see him again in the fulham match as i dont think gerrard is available!!! :(

I have always wondered about a possible 4-3-3

                            Mascherano
           Gerrard                                Aquilani
Kuyt                                                             Yossi
                               Torres

but in practice switching between:

                           Mascherano              Aquilani
Johnson                    Gerrard                     Yossi
                      Kuyt                           Torres

and
                     Gerrard                Mascherano
Kuyt                                  Aquilani                              Insua
                      Torres                          Yossi

when we attack in order to bring width into play.

to all the people telling us to slow down, yea that is well and good to point out, but it is important to note that it wasn't like he tried 15 or 20 things and then one time something really great came off.  That pass to Degen was basically his first freaking touch  1/1, odds are very encouraging that it wasn't just a moment of luck.

Very encouraging signs. The more I see, the more I want to see.

WTF ? He did on his hoop....
You think he's been sitting on his hole since he got back into "training" ? He might not have match practice at the moment, but he looks capable of running around like a blue ar$ed fly alright...

He looks like a good all round player. His pass to degan, his tracking back, overhead kick. He's like Alonso 2.0

If we get Mata this jan we will have a formidable attacking line up
