Interesting to note the difference between us and the mancs this season

HOME

Man Utd P15 W13 D1 L1 F42 A8 PTS 40
Liverpool P15 W11 D2 L2 F37 A13 PTS 35

AWAY

Man Utd P15 W8 D2 L5 F28 A16 PTS 26
Liverpool P15 W4 D4 L7 F12 A17 PTS 16

The difference is pretty clear, our approach to away games is too defensive and we're not scoring goals. FOUR away wins is pathetic, of the top eight it is the joint lowest number of wins along with Citeh - last season we finished with THIRTEEN away wins, it was the SEVEN home draws that cost us dear.

I agree with SM to a degree, I think we can put out a side capable of matching anyone but until now haven't and even close to our best side haven't produced the results. We've not been stuffed by anyone, just haven't played well against most of the better sides and set out our stall too defensively which is why we are as far behind the mancs as we are. Saddest fact is that we've dropped so many points away to sides we should be beating

I think most of us on here just give an honest opinion on how we see things.
A lot of money was spent on this lad and we wanted to see a return, up to now for a variety of reasons - injury, lack of games, settling in period he has overall been dissapointing, we expected him especially as a replacement for Alonso who was a very popular player, to offer something special and brighten up what has been a poor season so far.

Last night seeing a more attacking formation, Maxi having his best game, Stevie looking like his old self and Nando sharp too saw Aqualani in a different light.
I thought he was excellent, and yes I have been heavily critical of him, now though I want more please and Benitez don't you dare leave him on the bench on Thursday!

Some of the passes he played were Alonsoesque. The main difference is, Aquilani then follows his passes from relatively deep into the final third of the pitch to get on the end of things.

I agree, I just want to see him play regularly now and keep his confidence going.

I really hope he can now be a success, he reminds me slightly of Redknapp, especially in the way he runs and passes the ball.

Spot on Stmichael!

I saw enough of Aquaman last night to suggest he can be a massive hit at Anfield. His passing and one touch football looks top class but, I reiterate the point I made on my post last night, he was given the freedom of anfield to roam and pick off passes at will.

Hopefully Rafa takes an "I don't give a f*ck, we need to go for it attitude" vs Man Utd but I fear Aquaman may well find himself benched with Lucas coming back into CM alongside Mascha. And I can  see why Rafa would do that. The alternative for Rafa (if Gerrard doesn't get retrospectively banned for last night's incident) is to stick Gerrard on the right hand side and have Aquaman play off of Torres. Attacking midfield is where I see his best position.

Well done Alberto, keep up the good work mate.

and the amount of time on the injury bench....

I thought he was great last night.  He needs more games.  I havent slagged the guy of yet because the truth is he needs to be playing every week and give him a chance to bed into the team.

Lets hope Benitez gives him lots of oppourtunities to become an integral member of our first 11 before the start of next season.
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

exactly.

almost as ludicrous as some fans slagging maxi off after 6 games even though he wasn't fully fit and was playing out of position.

Agree he ran the game last night, everything good went through him and I even saw him try to make a few tackles so i'm made up for the lad. He looks fit and it was good to see him ping passes into feet and then burst forward into the final third which is what his game is supposed to be all about.

Rafa - PLEASE put your faith in our skill players for the rest of the season!?!?!?!?! Aqua has to play, same goes for Babel and i'd take Maxi over Kuyt during the run in. Let's have a bit of faith in our ability to keep the ball, attack and let other teams worry about what we're going to do rather than the other way around. I seem to remember we were pretty good at that last year.

agree.
he was absolutely fantastic last night.
his movement was good, worked well in the tight situations,1st touch passes with either foot were sublime and showed what good vision he has.

rafa did say he was like alonso but with more attacking attitude and thats what he showed us last night, his tackling has improved in the sense that he is more willing to be physical and i still maintain that next season he'll be a gem for us.

also nice to see some previous comments previously said about him being retracted.i know its one game against portsmouth but his ability and potential are obvious to see, also he has pride in wearing our shirt. delighted he got a goal for his efforts.
he's a fresh breath of creativity!!

I have to admit he started showing some real potential yesterday, lets see how he does against Lille and Maanure or will we be back to the failsafe of Kuyt and Lucas for those games?  :sniffle

Courtesy of Tonight's Liverpool Echo
ALBERTO AQUILANI today revealed his delight at fulfilling a long-standing ambition – then promised to make his outstanding display against Portsmouth the norm.

The Italian midfielder crowned a man-of-the-match display against the Premier League’s basement side by scoring the third goal in a resounding 4-1 victory at Anfield.

Aquilani’s goal came in front of The Kop and the strike was extra special for him, as it was something he had wanted to do since he arrived at the club last August.

He dedicated the goal to his girlfriend, Michaela, – Aquilani kissed a tattoo of her name on his wrist as he wheeled away – and headed for him in home spirits.

But as pleased as he was with his efforts, Aquilani – who also created Fernando Torres’ second goal with a sublime pass – is determined to make sure he reproduces them on a regular basis.

“When I arrived, I looked at The Kop and said that I wanted to score in front of it; now I have done that and I am very happy,” said Aquilani, whose season has been decimated by a succession of fitness problems.

“But above all, the big thing was that we played well and won.

“We have to take things step by step now. We can only think about Sunday after Thursday.

“Can I do better? Everyone can do better. Fernando made things easy.

“He is a special player, you easily play with him and Stevie.”

Liverpool moved back into fifth place, a point behind Tottenham, courtesy of their biggest win since thrashing Hull City on September 26 and the performance augurs well for the remainder of the campaign.

The next Premier League assignment is at Old Trafford at the weekend but Aquilani is not allowing his thoughts to drift any further ahead than Thursday night and helping Liverpool overturn a 1-0 first leg deficit against Lille.

“I have waited a lot of time but I am very happy because we won the game,” said Aquilani.

“We need to win a lot of games to get into the top four and this is the first.

“It has been a difficult season for me because I have had a lot of injuries but now I fee fit and am right to play.

“I had chance against Portsmouth and I had to take it.

“Most of all, I am happy because we won.

“We won 4-1 and it was a really good performance; one that we really needed.”

Pepe Reina, meanwhile, believes the Reds can take momentum from this triumph into their Europa League showdown with the French side on Thursday night; he thinks they will have outstanding chance of reaching the last eight if they reproduce this effort.

“We knew that it was a must-win game,” said Reina. “Fortunately we did it and performed really well. Hopefully we can do it again on Thursday.

“When the team is playing well, we can score at any time. For this 10 minutes, we were incredible.”

Made up for the Lad ,finally was given the platform to express himself ,long may it continue
