From what I had seen, he is definitely not suitable for playing CM in EPL. He is too soft and too easily been push away....I hope I'm wrong also but he reminds me of another Lucas but the hair is different....I think Rafa really like Lucas as he got himself an even more expensive version....He might be suited to swap position with Gerrard and play behind Torres. This should stabilize our midfield and might see some offensive spark. Otherwise, our midfield problem will prolong if play Aqua beside Lucas or Mascherano.

Actually to me he's similar to Alonso than to Lucas and Alonso never contribute much to defensive duty as well last season but if we are attacking we didn't need much defends anyway!

Aquilani is class. The only problem is Rafa - who wants to restrict him playing his natural game.

I am really worried about him.

The fact that he just can not stay fit, follows on from a four year trend at roma.

If he turns into another kewell, we really have coc.cked up, and unfortunately, the blame lies solely with rafa.

Doesn't matter if doctors told him that aquilani would only be out for 6 weeks when he was out for twice that. Tbh, rafa could have signed a fit aqilani, and we'd have had this problem. Rafa should have considered his previous injury record a bit more, and opted out

He reminds me of Redknapp, especially the way he runs.

The big problem is because he has been out for so long and was so expensive I am worried people may expect too much from him too soon.
Unfortunatley due to Benitez spending a lot of his transfer budget on him we are looking at him as the 'saviour', and in the lads defence that's probably not fair.

I don't think we can judge him at all, as we haven't seen enough of him - which in itself makes the purchase more questionable given we are over 4 months into the season.

It makes the Barry saga even more confusing, surely at £12 million he was a better option and would have left money for another player too.
Have to say at the moment the £ spent on Johnson & Aqualani is looking suspect in my opinion.

In the curent financial state of the club we cannot to afford to spend so much on a player if he is a 'risk' - I mean you can never be sure if he was going to settle, and we are waiting more than 4 months to find out if he will. Based on our current standing and performances this season, you have to question the manager's decision, I would assume the owner's have done likewise.

You could probably have got Barry & Mark Noble of West Ham for £20 million, both English and settled in the Premiership.

I just want to see him get a run in the team, get match fitness and used to the EPL and then we can see what he can do and make a judgement. It seems Rafa does not want this as he is afraid of him failing and then Rafas judgement will be questioned.
I really feel for the guy at the moment.

I don't know what everyone is worried about.  He is class in FIFA 10, so clearly he is going to be class in real life.  Robbie Keane is terrible in the FIFA series, should of known from that he would of been a flop.

Spot on Redman!

I had hoped to see Aquaman during the Xmas break but that now looks highly unlikely given he is injured AGAIN!

This is a MAJOR f*ck up by Rafa and leaves us shockingly light in MF going into the hectic Xmas period.

£20m could have bought us any combination Cana, Cattermole, Noble and Barry all of whom would improve our squad/team this season.

He's plyed 37 games in 3 years in Italy and 37 minutes here. HTF can anyone say he's class ?.
Then again, HTF can anyone spend 17 million on him ?
Just hope to God there is a number of games played clause in the contract.

Even on face value it was a gamble, pricewise and because of the circumstances. But how can you make a gamble work if you leave him on the bench?!? I just pray he isn't an expensive Kewell
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

It's clearly evident that only reason why Rafa isn't playing Aquaman because he's afraid of doing so.

Rafa has completely lost the plot now. The problem with him is that he is defensive minded whereas to challenge for a title yo u need attacking mentality (like we somehow had at the end of last season). This year again, he's reverted back to the defensive approach and has failed miserably. Top teams very rarely change their mentality to defensive. But we do it every game. At Blackburn we played at snails pace and against Arsenal, we were trying to play a super high tempo game. It's hard for the players to adapt to such frequent tactical changes so I don't blame them as much as Rafa. Rafa's approach may take a mid-table team to top 6/8 but it will never win anyone  the premier league title in million years unless some Sheikh takes over our club.
