The Panorama journalist could have essentially destroyed the annoying Hubbardologist with one simple argument. He should have asked why Hubbardologists feel the need to fall back upon the lazy "ad hominem" strategy where they personally attack the critic rather than the argument at hand. They constantly made reference to the fact that the critic on the programme that the BBC journo talked to was a rent boy previously in his life etc...but fundamentally his criticism that Hubbardologists harrass their critics and essentially stalk and intimidate them was sound and could not be denied.

Folks...interesting thread.....couldn't resist responding to this, as to me, this is a vile, destructive, manipulative and ultimately seriously damaging collective. I'm reluctant to use the word "Cult" 'cos I think that might even do damage to some of the more "respected" (sic !) cults out there. Not to say I condone some of the antics of other cults, or even understand them, but whether you agree/disagree or even want to understand other cults, THIS crowd is a particularly nasty bunch.
I suppose it's on many fronts : the origins of the group, and I'm not talking about the L Ron Hubbard time, I'm talking about the fact that even HIS version was a reinvented version of another group from thousands of years B.C. So, L Ron was a charlatan, a fake.....You saw on the documentary, the organisers wouldn't allow the movie stars answer questions about "Operating Level 7 Thetans" etc. because they reinvent themselves constantly....And why ? To get your money, that's why !!
The more you pay them, the more b0ll0cks they give you, to enable you to become a more functional being....
I remember a case before the courts a few years ago, when I lived in Germany. Two disillusioned individuals took the "church" to court because, despite spending 80+ hours a week trying to recruit vulnerable individuals on the streets of Hamburg (I think !), they were paid well below what was then the minimum wage. They won their case. The "church" tried to counter by saying they were a real legit church - result ? The judge threw thwm out of court. As a result, they do NOT have church status in Germany; they are classed as a business and have to pay taxes like any other business.
Me, I feel sorry for the vulnerable victims who fall prey to these vultures and I wish them all a speedy escap. Those who go into it with their eyes open, and who know what they're doing......they are very very misguided.

Doesnt take a lot to upset our Christian god does it?
The saying goes "An apple a day keeps the doctor away!"
God says "An apple a day DIE IN HELL EVE !!"

They tried to convert Beckham to Scientology.

He told them he had already studied it.

They said "Really?"

He said "Sure, I did it at school, I heated some water with a bunsen burner"

Scientology....  :no

They like their women folk to go through childbirth WITHOUT any painkillers and in silence...so I have heard...

They think any SCREAMING will damage the baby...

Rubbish...I say scream, the louder the better...

Everyone should know what a woman in childbirth has to go through....and the 'drugs' should be in plentiful supply.

Ok... rant over..  :D

The Hubbardites are very insightful though.

Apparently the Holocaust was caused by psychiatrists.

Manhattan was under the impression that it was caused by long-standing Germanic ideals of Aryan supremacy, Nordic racist doctrines, Teutonic ambitions of expansion into the East of Europe, ages-old hatred of Jews and the easy scapegoating of a segment of society by the rest of German society who were bitter and resentful over the terms of the Versailles treaty, but hmmm, I must have been mistaken.

Dr Frasier Crane caused it all!!!!

Those mischievous doctors, they get up to no good. I saw one hanging around a phone booth the other day looking very sly, I couldn't work out why he was in there for so long.

The reason Scientologists hate psychiatry is because when Hubbard's original book was published, the American Psychological Association advised its members to not use the techniques with patients, probably due to the fact that his book on mental health was a mess of unsupported pseudoscience, so in retaliation his followers have basically resorted to a hate campaign against psychiatry in general.
