Perhaps he didn't really understand the insult behind the word but trust me, to Irish people, it was as bad as calling black people the 'n' word. Dundalk, Emerald Red, Big Niall, myself and the dozens of other Irish posters here have no problem with 99% of the Paddy Irish man jokes made on this forum and elsewhere - we know its only a bit of fun - but very occasionally someone goes too far and says something thats seeringly insulting, which is what Judge did.
I don't think Judge is racist but I do think that he can be a bit stupid at times and doesnt realise or understand that he has gone too far or fully understand the words he is using.
My real problem is Dawson, Neil and others who say we should relax and lighten up, to 'grow a pair.' Its not for others to dictate what should or should not be insulting to someone. Like I said, 99% of the Irish jokes on here are harmless, generally funny and sometimes even truebut when someone goes too far and crosses the line its a bit disengenuous for posters to claim that the Irish are too sensitive or over reacting: this is the only time I can recall the Irish crying foul over an Irish remark, and there have been hundreds of Irish jokes on the forum.
What Judge said is no worse than the Simpsons Scottish stereotype, which we all applaud. People like me and Neil said to calm down, because it's eejits making it a bigger deal than it is.
From now on, so people like JBG don't get upset, lets all just never make a joke again. No jokes about any race, any country. No manc jokes, no scottish jokes. No french, no jokes about anyone at all, just incase it hurts the feelings of any precious little minds.
I truly despair. I do kinda see how people can get upset, but to demand a ban or something is pathetic. Justs ay you don't appreciate the joke, move on, nothing to see...

LOL.. happy Pikeys day is nothing like calling a black person the dreaded n word.
St Patricks day is basically an excuse for people to dress up in stupid hats, do fake accents and get drunk and puke everywhere. It has nothing at all to do with Irish heritage.

I tell you what: walk down any street in Ireland and call someone you meet a 'pikey' and see what happens.
Its not for you to dictate what a person finds offensive: just because you think it is harmless doesn't render it inoffensive. Anyway, you sticking your oar in is absolutely typical of this forum: what Judge said has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU DAWSON, nor Neil, nor Laza, nor anybody else who said we were over reacting. Judge made a particular remark which I and a couple of other Irish people found offensive, he said something which went too far. I feel now that he didnt actually mean it to be racist and he didn't understand why Irish people find it offensive but he still said it all the same and we were upset by it. Judge has tried to explain himself and fair enough, let bygones be bygones. Its not the first time Judge has made stupid racist remarks that he later regretted: years ago he was carded/suspended for dodgy Muslim comments when I was a mod here.
Lets be clear here: calling an Irish person a pikie/knacker/traveller/gypsy is one of the very few things an Irishman finds genuinely offensive. There are many reasons why, but Irish people suffered a hell of a lot of racism in England in the 1950s ("No blacks, no dogs, no Irish") and pikey was one of the derogatory slurs thrown at them.
Its typical of you Dawson to come on here and stir the. You're absolutely notorious for it on this forum for years. Nobody asked your opinion on something which doesn't concern you but as usual you come on and stir things up, simply because you have far too much time on your hands, are bored, and believe that everybody else should view the world they way you do. I don't tell you what to think or live your life, I didn't comment in the literally hundreds of little needless spats you've had with people here over the years so butt the
out.

eh? Has nothing to do with me? You called Judge a racist, a much harsher thing to say than to say happy pikeys day.
and would i say it walking down a street in Ireland? Of course not. Same as I wouldnt slag off whiskey nose in old trafford.. but we're not in a street in Ireland, and we're not in old trafford.
Just because you got your panties in a twist because the mean judge said something that hit too close to something, but dont start saying im winding things up as usual. I'm the one saying its ok to say things as a joke before the nazi police crying and asking for bans. I'm really happy for you granny that you didnt butt in during one of my 'many' spats (benny and..erm.. thats about it, and who hasnt had a spat with him) but maybe you should speak your mind, instead of crawling out of whatever space you're in to label someone as a racist based on what was meant as a joke.
Literally 100s of needless spats, I've told you a million times not to exaggerate. I may be bored yeah, but at least im not a self righteous tw@t calling people the names that are truly hurtful.
Letm e ask, did Judge call you a pikey? Or anyone on here a pikey? And did you call him a racist?
There you go. It's that simple. Its fine for you to name call but not for him to make a joke about a saints day that is notorius all over the country for alcoholsim and fights...
This is my 100s and one spat I guess.. now a klink will lock the thread and things will simmer until someone else says something that makes someone cry for absolutely no reason. For now, as far as I'm concerned, if St Pikeys day made you want someone banned, or made someone you have posted with years a 'racist' then maybe it's you who are on the wrong forum?
