i don't watch many scary films because they... err... scare me. of the few i have watched though, the one that has really stuck in my head gnawing away at me on a regular basis is the blair witch project. the tension and fear build briliantly throughout the film and the last 5 minutes are almost unbearable. the image of the guy in the corner just before the camera falls to the ground is pure pyschological horror. any time i go walking in the woods in autumn, which is something i really like to do, i now have scenes from the film flashing before my eyes.

Completely agree...one of the creepiest things ever caught on film and it's a 2 second shot of a guy standing in the corner, FFS. :D  Brilliant build up through the whole movie makes that one moment the pinnacle of horror.  Just goes to show, the scariest movies are the ones that barely show you anything...they just let your mind do all the work. :nod

Maypax Everyone and their dog has seen the shinning ffs!

Poltergeist had a couple of scary moments (when the bloke started peeling his face off! ) but never really frightened me. I had already read the Amityville horror book when I saw the film so I was actually a little disappointed. The book really scared me at the time. I was a little disappointed when I found out it was made up rather than a "true" story.

The Shining was a 9/10 for a horror film, good story and really frightening, not seen it for a long time though .....so maybe its aged?

They deffo scared me more because I was younger back then, only a kid
Salems Lot as I said terrified me back then...but I watched it a few years back and it had zero impact, just looked so dated!

Agree about the shinning one of the best  horrors ever made,it still be's on TV the odd time and is always work a watch!
Most of Stephen Kings books dont seem to make good movies though! :no

I agree mate, I think its because your mind can create much more frightening images than any CGI the studios can come up with.

"IT" the book by Stephen King for example frightened me, the movie had a few good scares.

The best films of Kings books have actually been the least frightening like The Shawshank Redemption and The Green mile.

Agreed mate, books have far more dimensions than a movie can give you because they are more descriptive as well and go deeper...but I cant be fecked reading anymore..just cant get into it!
Probably read about a book a day on here! :D

Loved the movie IT,never read the book though!

I watched Redacted today. 9/10 awesome film!

Redacted is a film written and directed by Brian De Palma that is a fictional drama loosely based on the Mahmudiyah killings in Iraq.

It's basically about some silly US soldiers who decide to kill a family and rape the young girl of that family. Insurgents then kidknapp 2 people from that squad (not the offenders) and they are tortured and beheaded.

Although for legal reasons the film mentions no link to the Mahmudiyah killings it is infact based on that event.

Very harrowing and bleak.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.

Last book I read was The Stand, by Stephen King. Excellent read wasnt too dissapointed by the film but the book is better.

Best horror ive seen in recent times is The Descent. Mixed views on that one but once I watched it I was impressed. Wasnt as bad as some people made out.

I can understand you being scared by Evil Dead when you were only a kid but watching them through adult eye's all three of the series are brilliant comedies with Evil Dead 2 being the best. The scenes with Ash battling with his own hand before cutting it off and hunting it down are comedy gold.

link-Ash and his possessed hand
