Closing the Ring, never heard of it Maypax. Just had a look and it seems interesting although reviews are mixed. Sounds like one my missus might enjoy so I'll look for a torrent.

Review "Eye for Film"
It's the Irish characters who are the most interesting, though they're really just there to support the central story; but Attenborough's portrayal of Ireland is, curiously, all-American and twee, accompanied by tacky music of the kind the pubs play for a joke on St Patrick's Day. A subplot involving the IRA is crude and cliched to the point where the script makes a detour to apologise for it. There's also a thread of misogyny throughout the story, whereby Ethel Ann's uncomfortable purity is contrasted with the happy-go-lucky promiscuity of her Irish counterpart, who receives nothing but scorn. Whilst the film overtly argues that people should take charge of their own destinies, it covertly celebrates its heroine's failure to do so.

If you're a fan of epic romances and are prepared to overlook these flaws, Closing The Ring will deliver for you in all the classic ways. Otherwise, however, you may find yourself closing your eyes.

Im not watching that shi'te!
I've heard about it and from what i've read also cant help feeling with the makers being clueless as to what "really" happened here they will portray terrorist acts in a romantic freedom fighter light and glorify their actions, whether they mean to do so or not is irrelevant but its usually the way.
When in reality the IRA were cowards sneaking about behind masks in the dead of night planting bombs and killing innocent people...far from heroes!
No thanks!! :no

Watched American Gangster on DVD - very good.

Always prefer films based on true stories.

Finally found a decent pretty scary movie!Called 100 feet!
Its a new one starring Famke Jansen.Basically she gets out of jail for manslaughter as she killed her husband after suffering years of abuse.
She is electronically tagged and under house arrest,so obviously cant leave the house!
Her hubbies ghost is still in the house and he's pretty pis,sed off...Good show, not fantastic but worth a watch and scarier than most "horrors" at the minute!I enjoyed it! :)

Its boss watched it tonight, dead scary.

Its not scary enough..people in mirrors?
The bath bit was rough with his sister and the end was a bit mad.Not really scary though.
No such thing as scary movies anymore! :no
Think of the shinning,halloween,friday the 13th,the excorcist,the brood,children of the corn,the thing,the entity,poltergeist,the amytiville horror,rosmaries baby,the omen,the howling etc....They are scary movies!

That does'nt come close in fact its insignificant when compared to any of them...all classics them! That was OK but will be forgot about soon!

Perhaps those were scarier because you were younger when you watched it?

Just a thought  :D

he does? why?  :D  what did i do?

anyway Baz, its not a film which fixates alot on Ireland, in fact, most of the shooting is done in US. here's the storyline...

The film opens in 1991, with the funeral of a former World War II veteran. The man's daughter Marie (Neve Campbell) delivers the eulogy to a church full of veterans who knew and loved her father, while her mother Ethel Ann (Shirley MacLaine) is sitting out on the church porch, smoking and nursing a hangover. When Ethel Ann begins acting strangely, only her friend Jack (Christopher Plummer) seems to understand why. It quickly emerges that there is a lot Marie does not know about her mother's past and the true story of her love life.

The movie flips to a time when this mother was young, lively, and optimistic (young Ethel Ann played by Mischa Barton). She is in love with a young farmer, Teddy Gordon (played by Canadian new comer Stephen Amell), who goes off to war with his best friends Jack (Gregory Smith) and Chuck (David Alpay), but not all of them make it back alive. The plot lines intertwine with the story of a young Ulsterman in Belfast who finds a ring in the wreckage of a crashed B-17 and is determined to return it to the woman who once owned it.

and Mischa Barton is naked quite alot  :p

woof woof ! wrote:Rightous Kill .Fairly decent pyscho cop movie but to be honest the two stars (Di Niro and Pacino) are far bigger than the film itself . A shallow story line with a twist in the tail that most people will anticipate well before it's revealed . I'm sure when they signed up the two stars where expecting more from this film, I certainly was. Decent enough but given the heavyweight cast it was ultimately a disappointment.
6/10 :(

I thought it was a terrible movie.  Pacino and De Niro are two of my favorite actors, but they should have retired yrs ago.

Honestly yes that may have something to do with it!
I was brought up watching horrors,my parents loved them.
I remember my dad brought Salems Lot home from work one winter night. We all sat round and watched it in the dark!
Big mistake...that film scared the living daylights outta me!For weeks when i went to bed i was shi'tting it incase that vampire boy floated up to my window at night!! :sniffle
I also remember being afraid to go to the toilet after seeing Jaws cause my sister said the shark would come up the toilet and bite me!!lol(and no that was'nt last week,i was about 7 years old)

Movies like that probably dont scare ya as much now because as you say you are older.Plus I reckon after watching so many horrors over the years its hard to find a movie with something you have'nt already seen...very few that come out now are original, its all been done before!

the movies that freaked me out were Howling  :buttrock  and The Exorcist. im a huge Michael Myers fan though i dont like the recent one that was created. the main theme for that movie is synonymous with Halloween

I thought the new Halloween was very good mate, the way it went back to his childhood and all that!
Not a patch on the originals but 10 times better than most remakes these days!
Remember the Halloween H20 with Jamie Lee Curtis it was fecking dire!

I can honestly say that there are only two films that have really frightened me, The Exorcist (and that was more the build up before we went in) and The Shining, a few films have had scenes that made me jump or gave me a brief fright but nothing like the fear factor of The Exorcist or Shining. Although I watched the Exorcist again recently and I was bored! I did jerk my feet up a couple of times watching Jaws for the first time though  :D
