until the second shot i was thinking, 'ah, the guy just flinches as the ball goes past and the bottle falls of his head'. the second shot seemed to hit the target for sure, though. there'll be endless debate about whether its camera trickery, cgi or whatever but its a cool video nonetheless. love the bit at the end where federer saunters over to his 'people' with a cool "what's next?" :D

Why would Federer associate himself with a fake tv shoot like that?

The guy has the skill to do it and the status as a acknolwedged tennis genuis?

Would SG fake a shot for tv?

Got supersize your imagination sometimes mate to get the picture.

simple,

-  the set looks too artificial (Federer walks over to a white-  background, brightly lit area for the serves)

- The tennis balls would be bouncing all over the place, but roll gently on the floor after each shot.

- The camera doesn't follow the ball or where it lands. You also dont see the ball in mid air.

This camera shake is a usually used to hide a join between a merge of different camera views.

Its the same tactic that Derren Brown used on the Predict the National Lottery results

Yeh, looks a a bit dodgy. The sheer amount of random parameters of the racket hitting the ball would mean it would be extremely difficult even for a pro like Federer to knock something that small off of someones head.

Still though...

However, there could be a million out takes where the guy gets the ball in the chest of face.  :D

Film...the great liar.

isn't that how players practice their serve tho? by putting empty bottles on the court and aiming for them?

it could easily be real and I believe it is
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing

i'm not saying Federer couldn't do this shot, he's world class and can. But the chances of him breaking the guy's nose would be far too high for a stunt like this.

great piece of marketing tho.

its a standard white film set, the kind commonly used to give a blank background to whatever the subject is. nothing special about it at all.

the ball hits the heavy black curtain just behind the guy absorbing all the momentum, thats why it just rolls away afterwards.

on the second shot you can actually see the ball hitting the bottle. its only a nanosecond, of course, and its very blurred as its travelling so fast.

there's still the possibility its fake but not for any of the reasons you mention. personally i don't doubt that federer is able to do this.
