The same history some years later, change the Zidanes and Figos for the Kakas and Ronaldos, but it's still a team designed by a chairman, in which they pick a good manager, but the manager has to deal with a difficult dressroom. It failed before and it will fail again.

is it true that they can forfeit the 2nd leg and take an automatic 3-0 loss and then advance 4-3?

Well, technically the official rule says that if you don't appear to a game, you lose the game 3-0 and that's what the ref would write in the paper of the game.

But probably the Spanish Federation the next day would do something about it. I don't recall a similar case Joe.

most teams that win 4-0 probably are not too afraid of losing 5-0 in the return leg  :D

I vaguely remember a tie between Barca and Getafe a few seasons back, Messi scored an incredible Maradona-esque goal and trounced Getafe in the home leg but went out because Getafe won big at home. Don't remember the scores of either leg, but I was shocked when I heard that Barca didn't go through. I think Shuster was the manager of Getafe at the time.

Also Barca Basketball is going to have their Euroleague games (or some of them) on tv on the NBA channel in USA, so thats cool. I fear that Ricky has been getting a lot of bad advice. Is he even starting for Barca? I saw a depth chart on wiki that said he was 2nd string.  And he signed a SIX year deal with them.  The longer he delays his move the longer he delays entering into his mandatory rookie contract which is set relatively low because that is what the NBA players union negotiated for so that more of the money in the salary cap can go to veterans who have proved that they can play at NBA level (it helps the owners too because they used to waste a lot of money on early picks and had to pay them based on potential, and when they would flop, it would eat up a lot of the cap space in a player that wasn't very good or sometimes out of basketball entirely.  Anyway, you don't start making the enormously out of control wages until you become an unrestrited free agent, and you aren't elligible for that until you play out your rookie contract (4 years) and he is just delaying when that can happen.

The NBA is just a big pyramid scheme, better to get in early :D

Friendly spam! :D

I saw most of the Barca game and all of 'El Derbi'.

Not much to say about Barca really other than that they were very comfortable throughout but not nearly at their best, and aided by shambolic Mallorca defending. This was without Messi, Xavi and Iniesta from the start which speaks well of their quality in depth. I wasn't convinced by their defence though. Chygrinski is everything a Barca player isn't, Pique is prone to errors e.g. ball watching - a bit like Skrtel, and Puyol isn't a very effective RB. Still, they have Marquez, Milito, and Alves to come in.

The Madrid derby was all Real for the first half and much of the second; hardworking - pressing well, fluid in their movement, incisive in their passing and absolutely deadly in their finishing. Xabi was the anchor in a 4-1-3-2 mainly, occasionally interchanging with Diarra, and you could clearly see how his use of the ball had a calming influence in their play. Anyway, 3-0 after about 65' they were, cruising and not a hope in hell for Atleti. Then of course, Ramos was sent off (deservedly) for a last-ditch challenge on Aguero on the edge of the box (no need considering the scoreline), and from there, the entire complexion of the match altered.

They pulled one back just a few min's after that, and it was a classic Forlan goal, he plays the one-two with the FB out wide and tucks away the return ball with his left peg as cool as you like and very much in his stride. That really set the crowd going. They were now dominating the match having done f'uck all for most of 65-70 min's. Aguero stuck another in on 81' just two minutes after Forlan's (the 'Smicer moment' if you like) and you could definitely sense a third. They should have had it - Simao ought to have put his volley away at the far post but didn't, and the final, crucial chance was saved by Cassilas (an Aguero half-volley) at close range. Cracking game if you have the chance to see it.

Would Rafa ever really want to even manage them? The way they treat people like a used rubber is terrible. It would be the opposite kind of job Rafa goes for, a long term one with stability. If he went on a streak with RM like he has done with us he would probably get the sack mid season. Never say never of course but I doubt he would even consider going there. He is here for the long run.

Was only able to watch the first half of el clasico yesterday: a lot of intensity but not a whole lot of chances, except for a clear cut one for the greasyhaired (from a nice Kaka setup) which Valdes saved. I did however see Iniesta telling Ronaldo to shut it, and I've read that afterwards he told some reporters it was due to Ronaldo accusing him of diving, which Iniesta apparently didn't exactly think Ronaldo was one to moralize about :D. Good man Iniesta, and what a footballer too :bowdown
