Not many Gridiron players could make it in Rugby for a whole match. One or two I am sure could have a moment of brilliance or two, even on the top class level, just due to their world class pace and strength. But the endurance is what would do them in.

Likewise, not many Rugby players would make it in American football.  Its far too specialized.  Maybe they could make it as a fullback, halfback, safety, and in the kicking positions.

But the training for the different sports varies greatly, and the both cater to different types of athletes, so its really apples and oranges.

Oh and about the padding, its actually used more of a weapon in American football. Although it is important from preventing head concussions and blowing out your shoulder, it also helps in hurting the opposition.

A couple of American's came over in the 70's and played for Oldham RL (one was named Tommy Smith, a sprinter?)the other was an American football player, I dont think they lasted very long. One of my mates was a prop for Oldham at the time, he said they were very fast and strong as horses, but couldnt get used to being tackled.

I think Alonso would be a good kicker of the ball though, he'd put the ball in the 'H' or that thing whatever it's called often and from range.

Hristo Stoitchkov made a bet 10 years back with an american football team, it was about putting the ball in the H from different ranges, and he succeeded, but I don't remember the details.

Anyway, I agree it's too specialised to be able to succeed from one game to another. in indoor football or soccer, you have great players with amazing ability with the ball that would be lost in a big pitch. Likewise, Ronaldinho (he was an indoor soccer player aswell), Kaka, Gerrard, Reina and Carraguer would be destroyed by a top indoor soccer team. Different games, and even if there are some attributes that are useful in the other game, it's not enough.

Apparently, (I couldn;t tell from the video) but  I have heard that on Becks first try he broke what would have been the NFL record for a field goal by one yard. Course it is much harder when there is teh game pressue, wearing pads, and having to time the kick in sink with the snapper and holder. and getting it off before one of the 11 men get to the ball and block it.

i like how u refferred to the touchdown as  a 'try' lol..... :D

anyway, even though indoor is a COMPLETELY whole different game to outdoor football, you cant deny that some players have taken some benefits from once playing the compact game.

well my mate is a young football player from Argentina and  dis is his theory.(not being sterotypical or anything ),lol.

He says the reason why south americans have such good footwork and skill is because poverty limits them at early youth to play only on old and broken down indoor or small concreted courts. They play in hard limited surfaces, where they grow there skill in close control football, advancing the need of finding confidence in themselves to beat the oposition player.  These ambitious young footballers dont even breathe the experience of playing in a formalized outdoor football game until early or mid adolescence, and even then they have to be lucky enough to be chosen into the local team. So at around 13 - 16 years of age they learn to adapt to the grass game, eventually leading them discover its a more harsh, team oriented environment... some find a way to cope, some fail miserably, but the ones who excel take the game they played in the carpark to the grass football pitch.

You are such a chump.

You "heard" that your hero first go did a kick better than any of the pros over there have ever done.

Go back to your Beckham shrine.

what? I am not a Beckham fan, I don't hate him, but where I heard it from was a radio show on Serius called World Soccer Daily hosted by Steven Cohen (a Chelski :censored:) and used to be hosted by Nick Geber a now pro poker player and Liverpool supporter.  I am quite skeptical of it being true, but it just shows how good football players are at kicking things far.  I will not root for the Galaxy or Beckham, but I do hope that he can change the countries attitude toward football.

why not send over talented players then? Giggs beating 3 or 4 players would be a lot better spectacle than somebody waiting for a dead ball situation.

Maybe Beckhams kaballah bracelet with keep all those bad spirits away from him over there (or has that religion been dumped as being sooo 2005, scientology is where its at now man!)

I am not sure if you know this, but I am not in charge of who MLS teams buy, I am not a multi-millionaire.  Becks wanted to come over hear, I don't think that Giggs does. And whats your obsession with bringing up MAn U players? why didn't you offer Fowler banging in a bunch of goals as a better option? He is the one who is available and been rumored to come.

I was trying to think of a very skillful player, who is still exciting but coming towards the end of their career. I don't think Fowler would really be dazzling to watch - he is about the same age as giggs but much "older" in football terms, Henry is too young and Zidane retired.

Beckham is the type of shallow A$$hole that is probably well suited to LA.

As for you not being a multi millionaire - I shouldn't have been so nice to you then :D

Although Fowler would not be dazling to watch he would probably set a goal scoring record if he went to a good club.  there are rumors about Veron and Riquelme coming because they are on free transfers, plus they would bring out the south american croud to the games.

But yes, Becks is well suited to live in LA and  I am glad that I live 2500 miles from it.
