We are basically stuck with him and loaning him out would help ease off the wages and if he does well on loan and someone buys him, we can at least get back some of the money. A fact is that we will never gonna recoup the 20million spent on him. Since he has no use for us, might as well try to turn him into someone Roy wants. I think Roy's decision is a good one as I never rate Aqua. He just doesn't cut it in a brutallly physical league like the EPL. I also believed his will is weak and not trying to be racist but i think Italian are more lay back in general and thus not many can make it in EPL.

You may be right, but he has hardly been given a chance to prove himself, has he?

I'm frankly disappointed, I think he offers us something we need, and our midfield is better with him in it. Hopefully the bright side is more opportunities for Pacheco.

Well I still have hope that he does well on loan and comes back firing all cylinders, although I doubt it

Loans are often the death knoll for a player. It wasn't so much the timing of the signing, it was his type, his injury record and the fact that he was so expensive. All in all it left question marks over his signing.

That said, I find it rather rich that we're expected to give Woy a chance, yet he doesn't afford the same luxury to some of the players.

I think this is the sign that Roy is going to sign a striker and we'll see us playing 4-4-2 more often (unless Cole is playing) this season. This is going to be our team of the season for me:

--------------------Pepe----------------------
Johnson----Carra----Agger-------Aurelio/New LB ?
----------Gerrard-------Masch---------------
Kuyt-------------Cole------------------Jova
-----------------Torres----------------------

OR

----------------------Pepe-------------------------
Johnson------Carra-----Agger-------Aurelio/New LB ?
------------Gerrard-------Masch--------------------
Kuyt-------------------------------------------Jova
-------------Torres----New Striker------------------

Feck me. Just when you think you have seen it all !!

I just can't understand this for the life in me. Here we have a player that cost us more or less £18m no matter which way we look at it and we are considering loaning him out.

He is a fantastic talent and moving him out seriously weakens our squad and for me this means 2 DMs against Manchester City away next Monday. First bad decision by Roy and this is the death toll for the little Italian.

Secondly, didn't the medical team say he was 100% fit and the injuries were now behind him. Sorry to say this but this is Roy's first bad managerial move whilst at Liverpool you just don't ship a player of that calibre out, we looked and look a better team with Aquilani involved and the next 3 games you would expect him to feature.

I'm lost for words, I really am. Especially when we have the likes of Plessis and the oldest youngster in world football still on our books El Zahr !!

we have Gerrard, Cole, Mash, Lucas and Poulsen who can play in a midfield role. obviously Roy is planning to set the team up in a different way, or he notices there are too many players who can play in that position. Aquilani should go on loan and get some games under his belt.

but i would like to see Jovanovic be partnered with Torres though. it could be a rather effective partnership.

If he is going then sell him - a loan move is the worst possible move - leaves us with no funds to replace him and we need to replace him as we need more creativity in the midfield if gerrard isnt playing .

He hasnt cost 20m . No where near. Loaning him out frees up his wages, gives him game time and showcases his worth to another team. He would never cut it in the prem. He has ability yes, but no desire for any physicality.

Get rid, lets frshen the place up.

We might even get  a fee for loaning him for the season!

I agree to an extent but if we wanted to sell him now what would we actually get for him ?
His value mustnt be great at the moment.
If he went back to Italy on loan and performed well maybe we could command a better fee ?

Im lost for words!  How the hell can we even consider sending him out on loan?
We're f.ucked for creativity if Stevie gets injured.  Could also do with him since Joe's red card.

This wouldn't be terrible news if we had money... but we don't and we need to work with what we have.

well he isnt a big loss IMO as he rarely plays. like Ben said above, if he performs well on loan we would be able to command a better fee. which club is he going on loan to anyway?

You never know mate, you might be right, but things can change.

I think its a poor decision from the manager and he could be used for good use here especially when our squad looks thin and Mascherano's future is not sorted yet.

Shouldnt Lucas be the one sent packing ?
Could be the case that Poulsen signed and he was expected to replace Mascherano... Would have left us with Poulsen-Gerrard-Lucas-Aquilani-(Mascherano) all competing for 2 spots...

The Mascherano deal falls through, so we now have an extra midfielder we need to get rid of.. Why not Lucas rather than Aquilani ?
Lets be honest here, in terms of defensive cover, Mascherano is the best we have followed by Poulsen..
In terms of creativity and offensive threat its Gerrard then Aquilani...

Lucas in that case would just be there as cover for our backups.. The whole loan thing doesnt make any sort of sense to me.. We have players who contribute very little to the side yet remain in the squad for whatever reason.. Babel and Lucas to name 2... Yet at the other hand we let Benny go to a rival club and are on our way to sending our 20mill signing out on loan...   :O

I think we should wait and see what happens before the end of the transfer window before making any definite judgements on this one.  Roy will know things we obviously can't, about players coming, going, funds available or not.  But
1.  We won't have to pay his wages
2.  He can get far more game time in Italy and put himself in the shop window to bump up transfer
3.  He is skillful, no doubt but physically he's not going to change, is he?  And I have to say from watching him on the pitch, he's lightweight for this league. I have my doubts whether he'd make it big here.  Sure, he'd have a few great games but would that make up for the frustration of several other games where he can't unlock the opponents because he's been shoved out of the game?  We've had those kind of players here before and it's VERY frustrating.
4.  The whole transfer was, in my view, a bit of a mare from the start.  Rafa buying a crocked player with NO guarantees of returning to full fitness, for that kind of insane money was mental.  Simple as.  We were the laughing stock among other top clubs.  Save on the excess payments which go to make up that "£20m plus" fee (which will still be substantial, believe me - nothing is paid outright anymore) and cut losses.
5.  Bet ya a decent sum Roy will be bringing in a good to very good striker in the next ten days.  the man's not stupid.

I'm trusting the manager on this one if it happens.  i quite like Aquilani but I'm not sure he's the kind of player we want really.  Let's see if we buy in some more creativity.  i have a feeling we will and we'll be set.  Incidentally, Jovanovic, for me, looks quality and I think will link up well with Joe and Nando.  I'm excited about the prospect of Gerrard and those three getting into a groove with each other over the next couple of months.  Fingers crosses everyone stays fit and I think we can expect good things this year.  That's the key, for me.

perhaps Roy wishes to play Lucas further upfield as we know back in Brazil, Lucas was never a DM. and as for Aquilani, how much have we actually paid for him? i recall something about installments and money paid on conditional appearances?

Alberto Aquilani's agent has attempted to put an end to rumours the Liverpool midfielder could move back to Italy this summer by describing his latest potential switch as unfounded.

The 26-year-old has been constantly linked with a return to his homeland during the transfer window after a difficult first season in the Premier League.

The former Roma playmaker has been touted with a return to the Serie A club, as well as the likes of Juventus and now Napoli.

But Aquilani's agent, Franco Zavaglia has put to bed speculation over the Italian's future by insisting he is staying with the Reds.

"Alberto to Napoli? These are absolutely unfounded voices," Zavaglia told CalcioNapoli24.it.

"There are plenty of dreams. Dreaming costs nothing, but it is not a viable hypothesis.

"Aquilani is a Liverpool player and will remain in England.

"He's respected by new coach Roy Hodgson, and this will be his year of consecration in the Premier League.

"I also deny the unconfirmed reports that he will return to Roma."

Aquilani made 23 appearances for Liverpool in an injury-stricken campaign last season but still managed to score two goals and provide four assists.

The Azzurri international has played in Liverpool's two Europa League games so far this season and could face Trabzonspor on Thursday night.

Seems a lot has changed since this.....obviously Aqua wasn't aware that he would be offloaded....
