Let's be honest, when it comes to signings the likes of City, Chelsea, Utd and Arsenal dine at the table first.  Once they are done, we fight over the scraps with the rest.

As sad as it is,  we are currently a tier 2 club  We are a very attractive option to a young up and coming player, who may not regularly playing time at the aforementioned clubs but again the problem is,  if they shine at us, after a few years the big boys start making advances and the player wants to move.

If you are expecting top names to arrive then I would prepare yourself to be disappointed - have we really ever gone out to buy the established top names - not really

Well we did at one time, that was back when we were genuinely trying to win trophies instead of just making up the numbers though.

There has been loads, Kenny Dalglish for a start.

He wasn't what you would call an established top name when we bought him - he was doing well in Scotland but that's it

Torres would be the closest to established we have bought

But we spent decades buying good players who then went and made their name with us - we didn't break transfer records to bring in stars we bought teams not individuals , we bought talented youngsters and developed them , we bought solid players and boosted then up

I agree its a shame but very true. We have become a club where young players will come for experience, develope their game and move on.

Eh? Kenny Dalglish was widely regarded as the best player in Britain at the time, hence his British transfer record fee.

When we signed Peter Beardsley he was a big name too, the club had to make a statement after selling Ian Rush so they went out and broke the transfer record again.

Breaking a transfer record doesn't mean you are buying an established top name - Carroll ?

Right name what names would you say are "established "

Higuain or Cavani for example ? The players known around the globe - it's players that we haven't bought - even with Rafa in charge we still go and buy them and don't see it changing now

Even with those type of players - is never a guarantee they work out and not many clubs can take the risk on those not working out

Scoff all you want lad but the Echo recently ran a piece about how the stands at Anfield are regularly full of scouts from not only from European clubs but our domestic rivals as well. As it said in the article they are there for one reason and thats because they see Liverpool as a club who is prepared to sell its most highly prized assets, a situation deemed unthinkable not so long ago.
It also pointed out the absurdity of clubs like City and Chelsea who were minnows not so long ago sending representatives to run the rule over our players.
Like it or not we sold Torres to Chelsea and Arsenal very nearly signed Suarez, this summer we will almost certainly lose Sterling to Manchester City and even United put an offer in for him.
We are a selling club and everyone knows it, even our fiercest domestic rivals.

I agree ,and I can also confirm that at practically every U21 or Academy game there are a disconcerting number of scouts representing the top four.
I know because I've talked with them Sinclair ,Chirevella ,Canos and Harry Wilson seem to be the most coveted ,the latter particularly by United.

We also have scouts at City , United , Arsenal U21 matches - their scouting is no different to ours

It's very rare for the youngsters to move clubs at that age right now
We don't see them buying ours as well
