There are strong rumours in the italian media that we have had 2 bids turned down for Kovacic but the Echo are saying that they are not aware of any interest from us in the player.
I'm just praying that the Echo are playing it cagey so we don't get usurped at the last minute like what happened when we went for Mkhitaryan, Signurdsson, Willian, Salah etc

Sorry to burst your bubble yakka but Kovacic isn't THAT good (apparently, since I don't really watch the Italian league). Might be a slight improvement on what we currently have but he won't change much. For me, the forwards is where the biggest problem lays anyway. If BR and his team are restricted to a small budget, then I'd be more than happy if they just splash it all on a quality forward. We'll make do with Lucas and Hendo in midfield (provided that we don't sell Lucas).

I feel like Kovacic is Markovic all over again. I'm not saying Markovic is bad, I still believe he can become a really decent player, but his first season was quite underwhelming. A lot of people were begging for us to sign him, and it seems to be similar with Kovacic (not taking a dig at you, yakka) in that I don't think a lot of people really know much about him. I didn't know much about Markovic. I sure as hell didn't know anything about Kovacic until we were being linked with him, and I'm starting to think he's just another hyped up player. I mean in the few times a 21 year old is really lighting up Europe, you hear and know about him before your club is being linked with him.

Since I go to Portugal for summers and have a lot of Benfica supporting friends so I had heard of Markovic and they raved about him. Problem with Markovic is we had too many wide players Competing so he never had a good run in the team, something a young foreign player need desperately when coming to a new league. Kovacic looks skilful strong and fast to me and would improve the team. He may not win the player of the year in his first season but he does look like a player for the future.

Exactly, besides Markovic was treated unfairly imo, players like Sterling, Gerrard and Lovren stunk the place out for months churning out awful performances yet were ever presents in the team where as if Markovic made the slightest mistake he was on the bench. I think Markovic was a committee signing myself and fell foul of internal club politics.
Players like Markovic and Kovacic are exactly the type of players we should be going for if we have any sort of aspirations about being a top club again. Don't get me wrong there will be some duds in there but by buying talented young players we will surely unearth some diamonds, buying players like Milner and Ings will do nothing except cement our place as a fallen giant of English and european football.
It basically boils down to this -
Players like Markovic, Kovacic = hope (but no guarantee's)
Players like Milner and Ings = no hope (guaranteed)

Konoplankya isn't that great imo. Yes pace and good shot but a lot of his other game isn't particularly good. Yarmalenko on the other hand is a proper player

Actually I'd like to see Can and Kovacic in the middle as I think those two could be an ideal pairing. I think Can did a job in defence because he is a versatile player but he is not an out and out defender... My opinion!
