why not Torres he's got to be better than Lambert...................instead of pushing on we go backwards..........................Don't the board and management ever learn

or The Fans  :D

More seriously, his history at lfc aside, since leaving us Torres has struggled to hit the proverbial "cow's ars'e with a banjo" .

Do agree however that with 32 year old Lambert as our only back up to Sturridge (who increasingly seems subject to knocks and niggles) we desperately need a quality striker, preferably one who's name would be amongst the first on the team sheet.

Brendan Rodgers has already splashed the cash in this transfer window but is carrying on his search to further strengthen his squad

Alberto Moreno will complete his protracted move to Anfield next week, but only after appearing in Cardiff on Tuesday, writes David Maddock.

The Spain star , 22, is set to play one last game for Sevilla, as they take on Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup in the Welsh capital.

Liverpool will pay around £14million for the exciting left-back, and Reds midfielder Suso could be going the other way as part of the deal.

Europa League holders Sevilla want Moreno to say his goodbyes to their fans in the showpiece game.

Only then will be the deal be sanctioned, after  tense and often acrimonious negotiations , which saw the deal twice collapse.

Pepe Reina has completed his switch to Bayern Munich from Liverpool.

The 31-year-old  moved to Anfield in 2005 but was replaced by Simon Mignolet at the start of last season and joined Napoli on loan.

He had hoped to join Rafael Benitez's men on a permanent basis but an offer failed to materialise.

In a surprising move,  Bayern made a £2million bid  and after a passing a medical, Reina has completed his switch to the Allianz Arena.

He said: "I'm delighted to be coming to one of the world's biggest clubs.

"I've come here because I want to win as many titles as possible."

Borini deal has stalled says Poyet

Gus Poyet has admitted his bid to lure Fabio Borini to Sunderland has stalled.

A £14 million bid was accepted by Liverpool two weeks ago, but the Italian is no closer to accepting his career at Anfield is over.

Borini is Poyet's first choice deal, but he has warned he can't wait much longer and is looking at alternatives.

Three-way battle for forgotten Madrid stopper

The Reds are locked in a three-way transfer tussle with AC Milan and Napoli for Real Madrid keeper Diego Lopez.

According to Spanish daily El Confidencial, Brendan Rodgers is keen on bringing the 32-year-old - who has spent the last 18 months as Madrid's No.1 in La Liga - to the Premier League.

Lopez's future at the Santiago Bernabeu is in the air after the club added Costa Rica's Keylor Navas to their ranks, who will battle it out with club legend Iker Casillas for the No.1 spot.

Club chiefs have reportedly told the ex-Villarreal man to find a new club, and would allow him to leave in a cut-price deal.

Lazio reject £16million bid

According to Sky Italia, Liverpool have had a £16million bid for young Lazio starlet Keita Balde Diao rejected by the Italian club.

The Senegalese-born youngster has been linked with a big money move away from the Stadio Olimpico, and Reds scouts were interested viewers at Biancocelesti games last term.

The players contract runs until 2017 in the Eternal City, but Liverpool appear keen adding him to their summer attacking overhaul.

Dortmund hope to tie down Reus

Borussia Dortmund will look to tie star man Marco Reus down to a new contract, in a bid to stop a potential move to Arsenal, Liverpool or Manchester United.

The German international is rumoured to have a £19.8million release clause in his contract, something which has led to a war of words between BVB and rivals Bayern Munich.

Jurgen Klopp's side would be loath to lose the 25-year-old, and sporting director Marco Zorc has explained his situation, stating "[We will] definitely try to keep him long term.

"He is Dortmund-born and a figurehead for the club."

Chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke added: "We have said many times this summer that Reus will not leave.

"Marco will play with us next season. ‘There is no possibility that he will play elsewhere.

"We will try to tie him to our club for longer and we are proceeding with peace of mind that he will renew his deal."

Merson backs new signing to star

Former Arsenal star Paul Merson has declared that Adam Lallana has enough quality to be "an absolute superstar" at Anfield.

Lallana joined the Reds in a £25million deal earlier this summer, and speaking on Sky Sports, Merson declared that if the former Saints skipper can acclimatise to life on Merseyside, then he'll be a massive hit.

"I would have to say I really want to watch Adam Lallana next season. I say that because Liverpool is such a step up for him, going there from Southampton for a massive fee and I’m really interested to see how he does," said Merson, speaking to Sky Sports.

"I’ll give you an example – Rickie Lambert has scored a million penalties on the trot and then goes to Liverpool and misses his first one in a pre-season game. That’s pressure – and I like seeing how people react to pressure.

"Liverpool is a totally different kettle of fish to Southampton, but Lallana is a really good player and if he gets going he could be an absolute superstar because he’ll be playing with better players now."

Liverpool look set to finalise a deal to sign Ezequiel Lavezzi after PSG told the striker that they want him to leave.

Lavezzi is among the Reds' transfer targets as they look to find a replacement for Luis Suarez, and reports this week suggested a £17.9million bid had been lodged for the player.

The news on a deal has since dried up, with Lavezzi said to be happy at PSG, but the Daily Express now says the French club are forcing him out to fund other deals.

They claim the French champions want to raise money for a new Angel Di Maria bid but need Lavezzi to move to Liverpool in order to free up cash in their budget.

Lavezzi is unlikely to want to stay a club when he is not wanted - and it's now up to Liverpool to agree a fee and close the transfer.

Juventus and former club Napoli have also been linked with Lavezzi but the Argentine forward has previously admitted his interest in playing in England.

Liverpool are hopeful that they'll be able to sign Marco Reus from Borussia Dortmund after a switch to Bayern Munich was ruled out.

Reus is destined to leave Dortmund in the near future after turning down the offer of a new contract with the Bundesliga giants - and refusing to change his mind.

The Reds have been strongly linked with a move for him and now the Daily Express says Brendan Rodgers is hopeful of signing Reus after a move to Bayern was ruled out.

Dirk Hebel, Reus' agent, told Bild that 'there have been no talks with Bayern' and denied that a switch was in the pipeline.

Liverpool believe they can get the player by meeting his release clause which comes into play next summer, and is set at a bargain price of £19.8million.

We should lock Reus up in the changing room after the match and keep him there until he agrees to sign a contract .Hate how some fans are going ballistic about this rumor though. The other day I saw a picture of Gerrard and his family on twitter and a lot of comments were spams like "Reus Reus Reus Reus". I'm surprised I haven't seen any fans tattooing his name.

Disappointed that Diego Lopez looks likely to sign for AC f*cking Milan. Such a waste of talent. We should have definitely went for him.

If we managed to get Reus then in my opinion we would be clearly better than last year. He is the one player that will most closely replace Suarez for our needs. He is younger, less of a drama queen and real quality. For me we should break the bank to get him. After him my only issue would be the GK which I feel  is in the works. I read somewhere that Reus wanted a new project so you never know.

Apparently the Turkish media seem to think that Kolo is on his way to Trabzonspor for €2m.
