before we signed him i read his thread in the shed end and most of the chavs believed his attitude and commitment wasnt what it should be. almost every one who posted in that thread had the belief that he could score goals consistently and he has.
for me i think he just has one of those sulky looking heads that looks like he's licking urine off a nettle, injuries aside he has produced the goods and imo a great signing in one of the key areas that needed addressing.

That is just disgusting. How can you even think of that

He's been a great signing no doubt and a very important one. But once again it highlights how terrible we are because we're entirely dependent on Suarez and Sturridge to win us games. And now that he's injured, it's just terrible. All for a meaningless friendly which he should have played just 45mins anyway.

I don't think he should be worried about not going to Brazil just because he misses a friendly or something. After all, it was his form for Liverpool that has given him the recognition he's receiving at the moment. Who else does England have anyway? Rooney is a cert, maybe Lambert too and Welbeck simply because he plays for Man Utd. Sturridge is a shoo-in.

its a saying we use over here to describe someone who looks sulky, we'd say "you have a face like a cow licking pi$$ off a nettle" 
your right its his form that will get him there and he will be a starter if he finishes the season like he started.
shrek has one of the positions and assuming roy brings 4 strikers that leaves carroll, sturridge, defoe, walcott,welbeck and lambert. as for who will line up along side shrek i would hazard a guess at either sturridge or walcott. no 4 will be a toss up among the rest.

Ok, I had a bit of stick earlier in the season for saying I thought Sturridge was a good player, not a top player.

I said he wasn't as good as people have made out... now I have to ask, what are peoples opinions? Have they changed slightly?

Our best run of form so far has come without him in the side and to quite honest, with us playing the way we are the moment I'm not sure there is a place for him.

I'm not sure Sturridge makes us a better side when he plays.

I personally don't believe we missed him at all. Don't get me wrong, when he comes back it will of course strengthen the squad and give us another option. But I wonder whether he should go straight back into the side. For me, he definately shouldn't. And if he does, he needs to play out wide, which is a position everyone knows he hates.

my opinion hasnt changed on him, the lad is a good player and a clinical finisher so i wouldnt see why he shouldnt step straight back in to the fold.
our record without suarez isnt that bad either but they have shown that they can play in the same team and still score goals. he would prefer to play central and imo luis will still run amok if he had to concede that role when he's back. il have to trust rodgers with that one.
only problem i have with danny is his injury record

I know where you are coming from. It's actually quite a nice dilemma to have for once. If Sterling plays the way he did against Spurs over the next few games he will be hard to drop. Coutinho won't be dropped. But how do you leave Danny out with his impressive goal scoring record? Perhaps Danny could replace Lucas - ONLY JOKING !!

The same could possibly apply to Stevie Gerrard if the team plays the way it did at the weekend..................... The next few games are going to be really interesting.

The 4-3-3 / 4-2-3-1 type formation we play with wide forwards seems to be the most affective.  Playing 2 centre forwards generally means we lose balance somewhere.  EIther in centre midfield or out wide.  This is not always a huge concern at Anfield when we're playing the likes of Norwich but when we play a good side we can get outnumbered in other areas of the pitch. 

With Suarez and Sturridge as centre forwards and Coutinho as number 10... we don't have wide forwards.  So opponents can focus their defence centrally. 

If we keep playing the way we are, I think Sturridge and even Gerrard might struggle to get into the side.  And rightly so.
Sturridge is a very good striker though and will have plenty of opportunities to get his place back.

If the team is performing as it is, you can't really take anyone out unless they under perform. For me, the only one who could be dropped after the Spurs game was Lucas, however, the team looked balance and in tune so I think even that would be a mistake.

Point being, our best run of form has been without Sturridge. Suarez is our best player and at the minute I think he's scored or set up 13 goals in 3 games. Why on earth would you change his role in those circumstances?

i`d have him in instead of sterling, i`ve said for a while i`d drop gerrard and have a hard working midfield behind 3 top quality forwards and my view hasnt changed.

I'm not interested in your opinions on Gerrard in this therad, quite frankly the fact you would rather have Lucas in there instead of Gerrard is laughable, but thats for another thread.

On Sturridge, you'd play him on the wing, where he he's said plenty of times he doesn't want to play and one of the reasons he spat his dummy out at Chelsea?

Do you not think that would upset the current balance we have? Sturridge is never in a million years going to provide width and I've not once seen him work as hard as Sterling did the other day.

As much as I dislike Sterling and think he's not upto it the lad has two goals in the last 3 matches and could have had at least another two... he's contributing at present.

Not a massive fan of Sterling since he got his £48k a week pay rise. To be frank he has been extremely poor. More of what he did against Spurs and he will win over the fans. When all said and done he is only 19 and still developing !!

i`m well aware one swallow doesnt make a summer mate, and a top quality CM still should be our number 1 priority in january, it`s just that i cant help throwing that one in because i know it winds stu up

Playing two up front away to City and Chelsea probably isn't the best move anyway.  I agree the way we set up away at Spurs is probably the way to approach those sort of games with Suarez the focal point up front.

Sturridge is a class player as far as I'm concerned and he'll have no problem getting games again when fully fit.

I wouldn't change the team for Saturday and I don't think Rodgers will (I still don't think he would even if Sturridge was fit and available this weekend).  Like I've said before he is a bit of a throwback in terms of saying to a player the shirt is theirs until they lose form.  Central defence is a prime example - we start the season with Toure and Agger, now Skrtel and Sakho are first choice.
