Well thank god we have to tell him now, he's gone for sure, he had absolutely no clue Arsenal had bid for him, but now the the knows that changes everything...

Are you f*cking kidding me? Clearly Arsenal think he has a release clause, and clearly we think he doesn't.  We'd have been morons to put a release clause of only 40 into his contract anyway...

I think he'll go to Real after all. Once they sell Higuain, they'll come after Suarez. No way we're selling him to Arsenal.

I was just thinking...if we sell Suarez in the next week or 2. Who will we get as a replacement at this stage? The transfer market seems like there is a massive shortage of quality strikers available.

Benetke - Staying at villa
Higuain - Going to Napoli, most likely wont come to non CL club.
Villa - Went to Athletico
Rooney - Going to Chelsea or Not going anywhere
Torres - ...means we are really desperate
Michu - Could be one hit wonder

I just don't see anyone worthy of that num 7 shirt on the market. So even with 40 million or more in hand we really don't have many options. I'm thinking a ***** off Suarez may still be better than nothing good at all.

Suarez=50m
Soldado 25m + Eriksen 20m=45m

Rather have these two now, than Suarez for another season at most.

Then we could sell Skrtel for around 8m + the 5m we got left from Suarez' sale we could have enough money for a new quality CB. Our net spending will be 0.

And yes, I love playing football manager. (jokes aside though, this is pretty realistic IMO)

No f...ing Arsenal. 50 million or more if it's them.
A Pl rival and the worst bargain bin club in the league.
And Suarez will be way up there on my hate liste if he jumps ship for them.
Heck we have just as big chance to win trophies than them...

I am resigned to LS leaving before the window closes. There is now a strong likelihood that he will go to Arsenal (makes me want to puke just thinking about it).  In today's football era, if you don't have CL football, your world class players will want to leave. This is the stark truth. If he really goes, we can totally forget about top 4 finish. And even if all plans go well in our rebuilding process ie signing youngsters, BR's tiki taka etc, it will take at least 4 seasons for us to return to CL if and only if our youngsters will become good and we don't become another feeder club. Thus I'm not building my hopes too high for next season. I would predict 5th is the highest possible position we can finish next May, 6th or 7th would be more likely but I don't think we will regress back to 8th. If we do, BR should be given the boot.

I think you clearly underrate Suarez if you would swap him for those two. Whilst they both are great players, would they make a world XI?

Suarez would.

I think the way that FSG and the team are managing this is perfect. We have a value we would sell at, reportedly at a minimum of £50M, and we will not entertain offers below it. Even then I think we would be realistically only willing to sell abroad. The reality was that, take out the last 5/6 games, last season Arsenal were Sh*t. They are our target team for 4th this season (can't see Chelsea getting weaker under Mourinho TBH) - in what world does strengthening your direct competitor for CL qualification this season make any sense?

Keep it up FSG and Rodgers, great work.

Update: Anyone just see John W Henry's tweet -

What do you think they're smoking over there at Emirates?

Well said John W Henry. Shows the owners (and manager) are wiling to stick to their guns and stand their ground on the Suarez saga.

So we are at the £40M + mark now......getting to the acceptable point where that kind of money will allow BR to bring in 2-3 really quality players to strengthen the squad. Yes Suarez will be a miss on the pitch but I am sure we have a number of options lined up to replace him.

Outside of Man City all its going to take is 1-2 movements in the transfer market for the merry-go-round to kick off and go nuts....Higuan, Bale, Suarez, Rooney, Ronaldo et al. Could be a very interesting few weeks ahead for sure!!!

Whilst I agree with with John Henry in sentiment I think the comment itself was slightly childish. Would have been better to just maintain silence.
