Luis Suarez signs for Barcelona

International Football/Football World Wide - General Discussion

The club are struggling to bring in top class players so may well decide to go all out to keep the
one we have got no matter how he has carried on.

Might want to move on anyway, but problems like this can be resolved and usually money is a
terrific incentive if not the only one for most players.

Be interesting to see how it pans out this week but my own personal opinion is I would pitch
a significant rise to Suarez (200K) effectively giving him the Reina money and see if that
resolves his 'issues'.

If not then show him the door and get him out pronto.

It's not all about money with Suarez IMO. He's a player in his prime playing for an underachieving club (which pains me to say). He needs to be playing in the top competitions like the CL and he thinks we're not capable of qualifying for that in the next 2/3 years.. and he's probably right.

Hope he stays, because he's gonna be so hard to replace without CL to offer.

Concur with this but I fear we won't have the opportunity to show any sort of support.............to my mind it's just a matter of the price and he will be off.

Indicative of the modern day footballer with a few notable exceptions ( Gerrard, Scholes, Le Tissier et al) Suarez has been in Uruguay and listened to people blowing smoke up his a.rse and tell him how terrible everyone has been to him  :Oo:

Football lost its moral soul some years back and Suarez isn't the only player whose head has been turned but of course because of who he is he will be lambasted.

Walk on ..........

The Gunners have made a fresh attempt to sign the Uruguayan striker this summer, by offering Liverpool £35m up front supplemented by a potential £7m in add-ons

EXCLUSIVE
By Wayne Veysey ¦ Chief Correspondent

Arsenal have lodged a staggering bid worth £42 million for Luis Suarez, Goal understands.

The Londoners, yet to make a senior signing this summer, are believed to have told Liverpool they will pay £35m up front for the striker, topped up by £7m in add-ons.

Arsenal’s initial £35m bid, made up of £30m plus £5m in add-ons, was rejected out of hand by the Merseysiders three weeks ago.

SUAREZ LATEST
16/1 Luis Suarez is 16/1 with Paddy Power to be Premier League top scorer
It is not yet known what Liverpool’s response is to the latest demonstration of Arsenal’s new financial muscle in the transfer market.

As revealed by Goal, Arsene Wenger will 'pull out all the stops' this summer in an attempt to land Suarez, who has become the main focus of his attention as he attempts to make a marquee striker signing.

Arsenal are believed to be confident that the Uruguayan is keen on a move to Emirates Stadium, and have now gone into completely unchartered territory to capture him.

The offer, which is comfortably a club record, is nearly double the £23.1m offer the Gunners made earlier this month for Gonzalo Higuain, who is in advanced talks to join Napoli for £31.8m.

Liverpool are fighting to hold on to a player who has spoken frequently this summer of his interest in a move, most specifically to Real Madrid.

Brendan Rodgers has compared Suarez's value to that of Edinson Cavani, who joined Paris Saint-Germain last week for £55m, but the Anfield manager has stopped short of completely ruling out the Uruguayan's departure, merely saying every player has his value and he will only leave "if something drastic happens".

A bid rising to £42m for a 26-year-old who is banned for the first six games of the new season might be regarded as tempting by Liverpool's America-based owners Fenway Sports Group.

Suarez has a £40m clause in his contract which his advisers believe entitles him to ask for permission to speak to any club that matches the price. But Liverpool claim they only have to inform Suarez and the clause does not oblige them to sell.

Arsenal believe they have been given enough encouragement by the Uruguayan's representatives that he is keen to move to Emirates Stadium in search of Champions League football.

The Gunners' second offer has been timed to coincide with Suarez returning to pre-season training following his extended summer break. The striker linked up with Liverpool in Melbourne on Sunday for the second leg of their pre-season tour.

Suarez has emerged as Wenger's first choice ahead of Higuain and Wayne Rooney, who is the subject of strong interest from Chelsea.

Arsenal will continue to monitor the situations of both forwards as they step up plans to use a war chest of up to £100m to make at least two marquee signings this summer, most likely in the striker and central midfield positions.

Liverpool insist Luis Suarez will be unable to force through transfer
Luis Suárez will return to action for Liverpool in Melbourne on Wednesday after Brendan Rodgers warned the unsettled forward that the club is too big to be controlled by any player.

Having repeatedly stated in recent weeks his determination to leave Anfield this summer, Suárez arrived in Australia on Sunday to link up with Rodgers’ squad ahead of Wednesday’s friendly against Melbourne Victory in front of a 100,000 sell-out at the MCG.
The 26-year-old, who trained alongside his team-mates for the first time since going public on his intentions with an hour-long session at Melbourne’s AAMI Stadium on Monday, was the subject of a £30 million offer from Arsenal earlier this month - a bid which was rejected by Liverpool.
Arsenal retain a serious interest in signing Suárez and Liverpool are duty-bound under the terms of Suárez’s £100,000-a-week contract to inform the player of any offers in excess of £40 million. But Rodgers and managing director Ian Ayre remain steadfast in their position that the Uruguayan will not be sold.
And with Manchester United holding firm on their stance that Wayne Rooney will not leave Old Trafford this summer, Anfield manager Rodgers insists that Liverpool are also one of the small group of clubs big enough to resist attempts by players to force a move elsewhere.
“Absolutely,” Rodgers said. “This is something we will control. This situation will not be controlled by the player.
“I am very strong on the values of the club, where we are and how we operate.
“Football and society is different nowadays, the [transfer] market is totally different and players can create different ways to open it up.
“But I have always said that there is no player bigger than Liverpool Football Club and that is something we are very strong on.
“Do I expect him to stay? Very much so. A lot has been said in the off season, but the reality is that he is very much a player of importance.
“Every player has a value and a worth, but it doesn’t mean we are going to sell him.”
Rodgers and Suárez held informal discussions at the team hotel on Monday after the player took part in a small-sided training session and further fitness work in the swimming pool.
And with Suárez due to remain with the squad for the remainder of the tour, which moves on to Thailand on Thursday, Rodgers admits that talks will continue in order to resolve the situation.
“I will do what I have done with the rest of the players and sit down with him,” Rodgers said. “The reality is that we do have one or two things to clear up, but that will be done and we will continue to work.
“Luis and I have been in regular contact, but by the time we got here on Sunday night and had a bite to eat, it was late.
“We have that sort of relationship, though, where communication is open. I always tell him what I feel.
“Luis is here as expected, he is an integral part of squad and we will chat at some stage.
“The bottom line is he’s a Liverpool player. We have only had one bid for him and it was nowhere near the value we have of him and there has been nothing since.”
The strength of reaction to Suárez from the club’s Australia-based supporters could yet prove influential in the outcome of his battle to leave, with an anticipation that he will be greeted warmly by fans at an open training session on Tuesday and during Wednesday night’s game.
But despite his brief summer break - partially extended by the serving of four of his 10-game suspension at the end of last season for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic - Rodgers insists that Suárez will play some part of the friendly in Melbourne.
“I’m sure he will want play some part against Melbourne,” Rodgers said. “The players are not quite up to 90 minutes yet. In Indonesia on Saturday, I played a team for about 60 minutes and looked to make changes, but all players will be involved and have some part to play because it is about our preparation.
“Luis will train and we will communicate over the next few weeks, but we have spoken quite a lot over the summer.
“We will chat more, but he is a Liverpool player, he will be part of the group and you could see his closeness with squad when we arrived on Sunday night.”

that sounds encouraging.
hopefully we can strike a deal with him that he stays for another year, if we qualify for the CL then he can either sign a new improved deal or he can move for £35 mil.

Sounds good, but next summer the pitchforks will be out if anyone suggest we sell him then for 35 million as this summer will be long forgotten...

All the speculation seems to be dying down a bit now so there's promise he'll be in red next season. All depends on how his season goes when it comes to next summer, his stock is pretty high atm so a poor season and it'll depreciate. I only really want him to stay if he wants to be here, its pointless if his heart isn't in it on the pitch

I must be honest, I want him sold since he doesn't want to be here. Staying for one more season or half a season means nothing to me. He's worth a lot of money too, and we can get two players as his replacement (i.e. Eriksen and Soldado). So the sooner we're done with it the better, or the players that are meant to be his replacements might not be available.

The thing is though, I don't want him sold to Arsenal.

Well the speculation is still high - Arsenal rumoured to have made another bid - what is quieter is Suarez himself . Think the saga is far from finished yet. Lots more to come in the next 5/6 weeks

I also think selling him and buying two quality players would be better in the long run.

suarez will still be worth £40mil next season.
having him here seriously boosts our chances of mounting a top 4 challenge.
loads of players have there heads turned and this is another example of it. there is no guarantees that 2 quality players will be bought either with the money.
from the pictures knocking about from training he looks happy enough so maybe he's realising he isnt that badly off.

the mirror is saying that arsenal activated the clause  :eyebrow

Arsenal trigger Luis Suarez's Liverpool contract clause with incredible £40,000,001 bid
23 Jul 2013 22:39
And that extra pound means the Merseyside club, who have rejected the approach, will have to tell Suarez of the Gunners' interest in him

Arsene Wenger last night tabled a stunning and cheeky £40,000,001 bid for Luis Suarez.

The extra quid triggers a clause in the Liverpool hitman’s contract meaning the Merseyside club must inform him of Arsenal’s offer.

Liverpool last night rejected the approach – but Gunners striker Lukas Podolski urged Wenger to seal the deal.

The German said: “Of course Suarez is a big player. He’s scored a lot of goals so he’s a big striker. I’m happy when players come in. I want to play with the best players in the world.

“There is competition at every big club, particularly at a club of the size of Arsenal.”

Wenger now expects Suarez to tell Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers that he wants to speak to Arsenal and move to play in the Champions League.

All a blur: Brendan Rodgers is reluctant to sell Suarez
Andrew Powell

Uruguay ace Suarez, 26, will find Wenger prepared to shatter the Emirates wage structure with a five-year, £150,000-a-week contract.

Despite the £40m-plus offer, Liverpool would find it more palatable to sell – if their hands are forced – to Real Madrid.

So far Real have only valued Suarez at £25m, but the Spanish giants have agreed to sell Gonzalo Higuain to Napoli for £30m.

And Suarez’s advisors have been asked to stall any negotiations until the Bernabeu outfit can make their own formal approach to Liverpool.

Liverpool want £50m plus from Arsenal for Luis Suarez
Liverpool want £50m plus from Arsenal for Luis Suarez
Liverpool have rejected a £40,000,001 bid by Arsenal for striker Luis Suarez according to the Liverpool Echo.
The newspaper reported this evening that Arsenal had bid the unusual sum believing that a figure of over £40m would trigger a release clause in Suarez's contract.
However, it is believed the Reds have rejected the improved bid; the initial bid put on the table was £30m, rising to £35m with add-ons.
The newspaper also states that Liverpool have insisted there is no £40m release clause, and only that an offer of that figure means that club officials are duty bound to inform the striker of the offer.
Liverpool are said to have rejected the bid immediately, and will not consider any offers unless they are £50m plus, and are accompanied by a transfer request from the Uruguayan international.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will apparently discuss Arsenal's offer with Suarez following the club's friendly with Melbourne Victory at the MCG on Wednesday.
