Anyone who has seen us play live in the past few months will have noticed how out of whack Downing’s movement is compared to our other attackers (Suarez, Coutinho and Sturridge). He simply doesn’t fit it in with what Rodgers wants his attackers to do and I’m sure we’ll be actively trying to sell him this summer.

Never been a big fan of Downings, he just does not possess much skill or vision. He works hard but he is no Kuyt, Kuyt scored countless vital goals.

I don't know why we bought him when Ashley Young snubbed us to go to the mancs. We could have bought Carzola instead & had money left over.

There's an advert for Downing in this weeks 'Exchange & Mart' just after a 1976 Mk11 Escort.

Cazorla went to Malaga that year for around 21M euros. So around 18 M pounds
Downing was rumoured to be around 20 M pounds. So the Change your refering to would be around 2M which isnt much in footballing talk

in season of 2010-2011 (The season before they both made their transfers)

Stewart Downing 7 goals 7 Assists
Santi Cazorla 5 goals 10 assists

Considering Downing was doing it in the english league in which he would be playing for us next year i can see why we opted for downing over Cazorla

Today he proved once more what I have been saying with his "performance"
Back to his wandering, pointless, ineffective, useless self starting on the right wing, drifting into the middle and ending up getting in the way on the left before he was rightly dragged off after 25 minutes.
Shouldnt ever wear a Liverpool shirt again in my opinion

There was a lot worse on the pitch today - but some people do enjoy a scapegoat

Suarez was poor , Sturridge offered minimal , Lucas , Henderson , Gerrard - all of them had poor games on par with Downing and Suarez was worse - Downing went off injured after 25 mins and the others had a full game to change things and they didn't - yet you prefer to highlight a player who only played 25 mins - no you definitely don't see Downing as a scapegoat

A scapegoat for what? Us not winning? How could I when he was only on for 25 minutes?
I agree that others had poor games and didnt change things but Downing was sh'ite for the start and went downhill until he was subbed. The players you mention consistantly try their best and offer us (Lucas excepted) some sort of threat. Downing doesnt. He prefers to wander aimlessly, running round as if theres purpose to his play, but he only holds us back as far as Im concerned. He nearly caused a goal just before he left, not in their box though, in ours!
As far as criticising Suarez goes, I can forgive him even if he has another ten games like today because of his passion and heart. Both of which Downing is lacking...

It doesn't matter what Downing does - your opinion of him won't change. He has been one of our better players this season yet the first person you criticise after we only draw at West Ham is Downing even though he was only on the pitch for 25 mins - I think that says it all.

You're quiet as a mouse when he scores and sets up chances and assists

I give credit where its due and criticism where its not. I am not easily pleased and wont flatter someone for doing the bare minimum
In my opinon he is a waste of space and scoring 2 goals and a handful of assists does not make him a good player. I expect this of him every time he plays for us and so far he has let me down far, far more than not. He is spineless and hides every opportunity he gets. Yes he has improved of late, but as I said before, from  where I was sitting he did what he normally does which is basically fu'ck all.
We are coming to the end of the season where we need to slog our guts out and battle to finish as high as we can. Downing is a luxury we can ill afford, simply because he hasnt the brains or the balls for a fight.
