well said that reporter.
if it was sturridge who had of scored that goal i dont think it would even be discussed.
it was champions comments that made this worse than it is and he should be reprimanded by espn or suarez's lawyer for public defamation.

espn made a statement about the comments.

“We take our responsibility to deliver the highest standards of coverage to our viewers. ESPN’s editorial policy is for commentators to be unbiased and honest, to call things as they see them. Inevitably this can involve treading a fine line on occasion, especially in the heat of the moment. Comments during the Mansfield v Liverpool match caused offence where none was intended and we have spoken to our commentator about this incident.”

next stop is to get champion to apologise :nod

club should announce Jon Champion will not be welcome at Anfield until he retracts his comments and apologises to Luis .

Agree with supersub's suggestion re Jon Champion being not welcome at anfield.

I was fuming at his comments and am glad espn have apologised. I was actually about to email them tonight to complain (for what it's worth) until I saw their statement.

Theres a poll next to that report 'do you think Suarez deliberately handled?'  82% say no.

So wtf are the press making such a big thing of it for unless they simply want to make fun of Suaez again?

Football's become a soap opera these days and no doubt we will be served up the same old media drivel after this weekend's game against the Mancs where there will be some "controversial" incident ! If there isn't the press will get all fuzzy and warm about how the two teams have patched up their previous differences and are now involved ina  love-in, its mostly bollox but it sells papers !

Seems to me that the press/pundits spend more time talking about an aspect of behaviour or intent than the game itself.

I've stopped buying newspapers cos they are so psychopantic trying to appeal to a section of society that wants to attribute blame and be indignant all the time instead of simply enjoying the Beautfiul game and celebrating the good parts of it.

On Luis Suarez as this is his thread, he is at the top of his game at present and would walk into ANY team in the world at present. My fear is that should we not qualify for the CL this season then he might just do that !

Most non-Liverpool fans believe he handled it on purpose, they like the fact he's a villain and that Liverpool have to "cheat" to win. 82% said "no" because most people reading that were Liverpool fans. Non-Liverpool fans refuse to actually give an article a chance that says Suarez isn't a cheat.

Looking at the replays and pictures, a few things are absolutely necessary to point out:

-He was running forward, so the notion that his hand was out of place is far off.  Imagine if we all ran with our hands at our sides, not moving or raising above our heads at all.  We'd move half as fast and look like a bunch of f*cking penguins.

-He very clearly tried to pull his hand away instantly

-He was extremely close to the keeper when the ball has ricocheted off him, if he could react that fast then he's the most natural athlete in the world.

-The final key point I have to make is probably the most important.  Look at any photo of the incident.  They like using photos because photos always make you look guilty, but in the photo of when the ball hits his hand, HIS EYES ARE CLOSED.  You're telling me that, with closed eyes he throws his hand at the ball, knocks it down perfectly at his feet, and taps it in? I don't think so, but if he did his is literally the most naturally coordinated person to ever walk the earth.

What really gets me is all these people that try to analyze it.  They say things like it's against Mansfield, and he should have not done it because he should have thought about the fact it's not a big game and Liverpool would have probably won anyway.  So they are not only claiming that he did it on purpose with his spiderman-like reflexes, but he also has time to think through all the repercussions of what he's doing in the tenth of the second from when the ball has bounced up at his hand.

These people are f*cking morons, but the people who believe these f*cking morons are even worse.

What I cannot understand is how the fourth official allegedly said to Rodgers that he had seen the handball, but because it was accidental, he felt the goal should have stood. Why isn't this fourth official and the referee getting their fair share of the blame? What annoys me even more is how Joe Allen's blatant handball on the line which cost Mansfield a stonewall penalty and a chance of getting a draw/win seems to have gone unnoticed because of the Luis Suarez incident. If I was Mr Radford I'd have been more upset with that then the Suarez incident.

I'm really getting tired of this nonsense surrounding Suarez, it's having an immeasurable impact on the reputation of our club and I don't like it, I feel there is a systematic campaign to force Luis Suarez out of England and out of our club. It's an absolute scandal and if I was Suarez, I'd be hoping to seal a switch to Real Madrid and La Liga, A league and a club that appreciates genuine top class talent.

...or stay at Liverpool and keep upsetting the media, play well and prove them all wrong. It's sad but lets face it he's doing the business on the pitch and bagging goals so why should we suffer? He's not tarnishing the great 'Liverpool FC' brand name, H&G did that years ago.

Stay where you are Luis and keep putting the goals in.

Bit dramatic mate !! So Luis has got a bit of history - I CAN LIVE WITH THAT !! Suarez since very early in the season and after the Stoke match has behaved impeccably and clearly wants to play for Liverpool. It was not long ago that RedHands and others aimed some heavyweight criticism at Luis and suggested that if an offer of around £30m was forthcoming we should let him go for a more rounded striker.

I would expect some of these idiotic comments from a hypocrite like Ferguson and not Liverpool supporters. They should (yourself excluded - I know you're a Luis fan) try supporting the one player we have who's attitude can't be questioned and his brilliance cannot be denied. Leave the castigation to the opposition. Most genius's are flawed. Luis makes the occasional mistake. I can live with that. Yesterday however was an exception. He reacted to a situation and the officials should have punished him for it. We now have our own supporters suggesting that we should offer a replay !! I didn't hear Moyes rushing forward saying Liverpool can have the three points because the linesman was inept. Even Mansfield's manager didn't criticise Suarez !!!!!

If you are also suggesting that when Joe Allen was on the line with his arms firmly tucked into his side and the ball hit his arm that that was a blatant penalty then we were watching a different game. Penalty possibly - blatant never.
