Ian Rush still looks reasonably fit.

Could do a job off the bench :)

I've emailed Rodgers...   I've offered to play up front for us until January, I don't want paying a penny. I'll do it for the shirt!

So shall we wait for Carroll to turn Drogba's age before we see the best of him?  ???  What's your point?

the point is you were having a sly dig at carroll`s ability, my point is compared to strikers of his type he is actually ahead of the curve.

Here is a list of free transfers, not sure how up to date it is (name, last club, age):

Michael Owen (Man United, 32)
Florent Sinama Pongolle (Sporting, 27)
Emile Heskey (Aston Villa, 34)
Alfonso Alves (Al Rayyan, 31)
Eidur Gudjohnsen (AEK Athens, 33)
Danko Lazovic (Zenit St. Petersburg, 29)
Caleb Folan (Birmingham, 29)
James McFadden (Everton, 29)
David Suazo (Catanio, 32)
Alessando Del Piero (Juventus, 37)
Hernan Crespo (Parma, 37)
Robbie Fowler (Muangthong United, 37)
Royston Drenthe (Real Madrid – Everton loan, 25) [is he actually a striker?]
Gokhan Unal (Fenerbache, 30)
Tuncay Sanli (Wolfsburg – Bolton loan, 30)
Somen Tchoyi (West Brom, 29)
Ivan Klasnic (Bolton, 32) * Uncertain, contrasting reports.

Players not available but reported to be free agents include Dider Drogba and Nicolas Anelka, both with Shanghai Shenhua in China despite reports that they are to be released due to financial problems.

Most are not real options I think, but I'd be tempted by Pongelle on a short term contract. At the very least he has been in Spain for a few years now, so may be used to Rodgers' style (yes, I know he wasn't with Barca, but still). And he might be willing to return. And I'd probably take Fowler too though he is past it.

I didn't think Drenthe was a striker, but worth a look?

I doubt Drogba and Anelka's situation will be resolved in time for the submission of squad lists (tomorrow, right?) so I don't think either are realistic options, but I'd take either of them too.

But perhaps the best thing may be to give Morgan and Suso etc a chance.

The thought went through my head, but hopefully no matter what happens, we'll never be that desperate. Please no.

Wow... I think the reaction to our lack of signings on deadline day is a bit over the top to be honest. Getting a list of the free transfers with names like Del Piero, Crespo..etc is pushing it a little. What we need to do is get the likes of J.Cole and Assaidi fit and integrated in the first team.

Borini should be relegated to a bench role and theres the backup striker we've been calling for. Downing as a starter down the right and Sterling/ Assaidi/ Cole rotating down the other flank...

Wingers: Downing - Sterling - J.Cole - Assaidi (Pacheco, Suso)
Strikers: Suarez - Borini (Morgan, Yesil)

The quality might be lacking a bit but I don't see any of the free transfers (Drogba and Anelka aside) being worth the investment.

Fully agree with ace. I was none too happy fri night but thats done now, cant do much other than sign a free bee but i didnt want owen before deadline day so why should that change now. His days are over, why are we even contemplating wanting another joe cole on board.

Push gerrard up top and get shelvey in middle 3 and with henders, downing, borini, cole and give suso and pacheco a go, then we have some decent options.
