Is his contract up in Jan? Funny in the summer they wern' judging from his stupid buy out clause.

Anyway if you think we are in for him, think again.

His contract is up next summer, meaning he can negotiate a move from the start of next year, but obviously not until his contract finishes with Athletic. Bilbao refused to budge from the buy out clause when approached, fair play to them, they did the same with Javi Martinez and Bayern ended up relenting and paid a clean fortune for him.

As for him coming to Liverpool, I think there is about a 0.05% chance of that happening, and thats me being optimistic.

Spanish newspaper AS claim that #LFC are lining up a move for Fernando Llorente who is available for as little as £12m in the January window

Don't rate him, no thanks....

Don't rate him? Seriously?

I'd be surprised if he was the kind of player we were looking for, as I'm not sure he entirely fits the blueprint but everytime I have seen him he has been impressive.

Seen Ba linked a bit this week, if he doesn't kiss and make up with Pardew that might be more realistic.

another undoutably over inflated price for a Newcastle striker that is in form. he knows where the goal is but so did Carroll when he was there.

Or maybe just his £7 mil release clause.

Ba also knew where the goal was for Hoffenhiem and West Ham

Given our complete lack of quality in front of goal (Saturday aside) I fully expect us to be linked with every man and his dog between now and January. The most regular rumour I hear is the Carroll/Ba swap deal but Llorente would suit me as would welcoming back Carroll to the fold (which I don't think is out of the question to be honest).

In the meantime I expect all sorts of players to be linked. And some big names as well  :glare: Time will tell I suppose. We need to focus on getting up the league in the meantime in the hope of convincing the top class striker we need.

The cheapest solution may very well be to bring Carroll back

Liverpool chasing PSV Eindhoven star Dries Mertens in January    October 9, 2012

It is no secret that Brendan Rodgers likes young hard working players. The manager has made it one of Liverpool’s missions to bring great young talent in hopes to creating a squad for the future over the next few seasons.

He already has made strong additions with the signings of Fabio Borini and Oussma Assaidi, but the addition of 25-year-old Belgian international Dries Mertens could not only add great versatility to the wings and midfield but also goals.

Mertens scored 20 goals last season for PSV and has already scored four in five games this season in the Dutch Eredivisie so far. According to TalkSport, Mertens could be available for around £10 million.

With the uncertainty surrounding Steward Downing and his future at Anfield, the signing of a player like Mertens in January could be the perfect means to allow the club to sell Downing on from Anfield where he has never made his mark.

That's about all Downing is good for, he spends most of his time on the pitch just watching what's going on anyway.  :p
