Here is a list of free transfers, not sure how up to date it is (name, last club, age):
Michael Owen (Man United, 32)
Florent Sinama Pongolle (Sporting, 27)
Emile Heskey (Aston Villa, 34)
Alfonso Alves (Al Rayyan, 31)
Eidur Gudjohnsen (AEK Athens, 33)
Danko Lazovic (Zenit St. Petersburg, 29)
Caleb Folan (Birmingham, 29)
James McFadden (Everton, 29)
David Suazo (Catanio, 32)
Alessando Del Piero (Juventus, 37)
Hernan Crespo (Parma, 37)
Robbie Fowler (Muangthong United, 37)
Royston Drenthe (Real Madrid – Everton loan, 25) [is he actually a striker?]
Gokhan Unal (Fenerbache, 30)
Tuncay Sanli (Wolfsburg – Bolton loan, 30)
Somen Tchoyi (West Brom, 29)
Ivan Klasnic (Bolton, 32) * Uncertain, contrasting reports.
Players not available but reported to be free agents include Dider Drogba and Nicolas Anelka, both with Shanghai Shenhua in China despite reports that they are to be released due to financial problems.
Most are not real options I think, but I'd be tempted by Pongelle on a short term contract. At the very least he has been in Spain for a few years now, so may be used to Rodgers' style (yes, I know he wasn't with Barca, but still). And he might be willing to return. And I'd probably take Fowler too though he is past it.
I didn't think Drenthe was a striker, but worth a look?
I doubt Drogba and Anelka's situation will be resolved in time for the submission of squad lists (tomorrow, right?) so I don't think either are realistic options, but I'd take either of them too.
But perhaps the best thing may be to give Morgan and Suso etc a chance.
