It's a lot more serious than that.

It doesn’t look like FSG are going to throw silly money at the team, it looks and feels like that they are preparing to sell the club.

Even without the new stadium they have completely revamped the commercial side of the club (shirt sponsors are the highest in prem), they have reduced the wage bill so that they are now only 62 % of turnover which is one of the smallest percentages in the prem and with Rodgers have a forward thinking manager that is bankable.
We are now a financially secure and attractive investment. If FSG were to place us on the market they would have a lot more potential buyers than RSB had and at a far better price.

I think that will depend on the outcome of the investigations, but it sure doesn't look good and I think Standard Chartered owe Luis Suarez a public apology for blatant hypocrisy. They spoke out against Suarez when he 'refused' to shake Evra's hand stating that such actions will harm their image and while that's going on, they're doing stuff like this, it's remarkable really isn't it?

The major issue we have is that Standard Chartered pay this club an enormous amount of money, so it will boil down to a question of ethics vs monetary gain. If we do cancel our sponsorship deal with Standard Chartered we'll be worse off financially, but if we don't cancel the deal then our reputation will take another hit and I'd imagine it will cause our club and the Boston Red Sox all manner of problems with the wider American public.

People forget that Iran for years has been smuggling weapons into Afghanistan, Iraq, Nigeria and Somalia and no doubt their weaponry has caused the deaths of thousands and thousands of innocent people. Iran has also recently been accused of planting a bomb on a Bulgarian coach packed full of Israeli tourists which was detonated killing a few and injuring many more.

The fact that Standard Chartered's share price has fallen dramatically today at around 20% says everything. Their image will forever be tarnished by this incident.

Folks have unrealistic hopes of LFC buying in world class players, its part of the romantic dream however in the cold light of day, the moment our valiant lawyer 'Grabbo' kicked H&G into touch, the dire needs of the club facing the new owners were, and remain (note: 'remain'):

1.  A cash injection to boost the squad, placate the fans and create a feel good factor.
2.  To quantify the financial damage done to the club by H&G and restructure the finances to get us on an even keel.
3.  To bring in as many new sponsers as possible to raise revenue.
4.  To provide a financially sustainable solution to the stadium issue.

Looking at those one by one:

1. Hodgson was give wedge and brought in a 'useless bunch'. Kenny wasted a massive sum on very average players. We owners provided the funds and kept their part of the deal but were let down by local management - the fact that Hodgson, Comolli, Kenny and Steve Clark have all left demonstrates their failure to achieve what was expected of them.

2. Balancing the books has been more difficult as I'm sure after H&G left, further scams were uncovered, I don't think the 60 million spent on a new stadium drawing was the only effort to milk the club. High priced players were unsellable and high wage players weren't prepared to break their contracts - hence Cole at 30 years old is on a massive contract, Aquilani has gone effectively for nothing and the likes of Carragher remain despite being past their sell by dates. If Skittle and Agger want to leave its probably because their wages are seriously below what our clubs are paying and not really becuase they've lost confidence in the club.

3. Commercial: Sponsership has been only partially successful as the Standard Chartered contract for example is linked to success. Needless to say we got the base value last year and probably no bonus from failing to qualify for CL and not winning the FA cup etc.. However undoubtedly the club has become more successful in attracting sponsers - Warrior and Jack Wolfskin are good examples.

4. The stadium has to be linked to the preceding 3 points. Only when a manager buys in successful players at economical prices to generate success and therefore revenue on the field, when commercially the books are balanced and we have a positive cashflow from competitions, commercial and a wider fan base (with resultant regional sponsership opportunities) with the potential to maximise the income from a larger capacity stadium can it go ahead.

The team must be self supporting -> transfers + wages covered from revenues earned on the field (league, cups, tv rights directly attributed).
Commercial must be set goals to pay for a % of club costs (academy, worldwide adverting/promotion, scouting etc..).
The stadium must be self supporting - naming rights, matchday revenues etc.. to pay for constructions and annual overheads.

When each of the three main parts of the club - team, commercial and stadium and performing as they should and covering their designated costs will the club be fully recovered from H&G, back on a level footing and then and only then can we start dreaming of buying in world class players.

The owners are doing what was expected of them on day 1, provide funds and turn our club back from the brink of bankruptcy. Lets applaud them for that.

It must be right because it is really really long. Seriously, some good points. I hope you are wrong about point 4. I think the Warrior deal, for example, shows that we still have interest to sponsors. However, naming rights to a stadium of a club playing in the CL have got to be worth more than naming rights to a club in mid-table.
"Life is not just about money. There are other things, important things that have a different kind of value. Anyone from Liverpool could tell you that."
