love how there's still rumours flying around. I remember Kenny saying they were disappointed that they didn't get anyone more player in in January, maybe this summer they'll make amends :D

We need defenders tho seriously
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

Couldn't see a thread for Doni, anyway, in case it hasn't already been posted- Taken from SSN

Alexander Doni will complete his move to Liverpool on Friday, according to the Roma goalkeeper's agent.

The two clubs reached an agreement last month for Doni to join the Reds on a free transfer, with the 31-year-old expected to sign a two-year contract.

"Everything is okay with Liverpool," Doni's agent Ovidio Colucci told asromanews.it.

"We are returning to Rome to sign the final documents.

"The deal will be finally completed tomorrow and Doni will be back at Liverpool on Sunday to be available for [Liverpool manager Kenny] Dalglish."

Doni moved to Roma in 2005 from Juventude and is under contract at the Serie A outfit until 2013.

He has been understudy to Julio Sergio in recent seasons, but made 16 league appearances for Roma last term.

We need defenders tho seriously

Kelly-----Carra-----Agger-----Johnson
Flanagan---Skrtel---Kyrgiakos---Robinson

we have 8 1/2* defenders in our squad who can fill in the defensive positions.

i like the look of the above. we don't need another defender. 8 is enough for the defense as there as youth players as well such as Wisdom.

however, should we buy new defenders, i hope to see them come in as replacements for the current personnel.

for example: sell Skrtel and Aurelio replace them with Cahill and Baines or Figueroa.

i would welcome Figueroa because he is 28. by the time he is 32 or 33, Robinson would be ready to take over the left side slot.

another player i would like to see is Aaron Lennon. we desperately need a pacey player who is creative as well. McManaman has never been replaced and Lennon would do a good job on the right.

my second choice would naturally be Marc Albrighton. really rate him and he was one of Villa's best performers last season.

alternatively, shift Gerrard to the right side. we have too many central midfielders anyway.

* 1/2 = Fabio Aurelio.

The one thing with Agger is that he seems to be injury prone, though do hope he stays in good health through-out the season as we could do with his experience against the tougher teams..

yeah its such a shame. hopefully its all sorted. would love to see him in action instead of Skrtel whom i feel has been very lucky to not be in the ref's books on certain occasions.

With no European football it will hopefully be easier to keep Agger fit.

Overall assuming Downing comes I would imagine a defender is the next priority , whether that's a left back or centre half.

Agger is injury prone but when he's not, he's an incredible attacking CB.  He's the only CB we have that's capable of a productive transition when he gets the ball instead of just hoofing it up the pitch like all the other CBs.

MH, we've been linked with CB's and it's obvious that it is a problem position because of the inconsistencies we've had, the injury problems, and the fact that Carra is so old.  Kenny and co. know this and I can't imagine them not going after a CB this summer.

In regard to that post about getting Figeroua, I think it could be a good shout, but if I'm honest I'd rather play Kelly on the right and move Johnson to the left then him.  We need somebody young enough and talented enough that in the next couple years they will be one of the best.

I think we're holding out on Dann, rumor has it he wants the move to LFC but we won't pay what they want/what Stoke has already agreed to pay.  He doesn't want the move to Stoke though and might have to put in a transfer request to force the move to us.  We only want to pay like 50-70% of what Stoke is willing to pay and Birmingham are in a tough spot.  It's funny that both Adam and Downing, maybe even Dann if it happens have all pushed the asking price down due to them WANTING to play for us.  It feels good to be honest. :)

Our problem at CB isn't with quantity, the problem is the quality. We someone good enough to walk into the first team, or at least give Agger and Carragher a real good challenge for that spot. Happy to sell whoever we have to to make that happen.

Ironically, our problem at LB is completely the opposite. I think Aurelio is an excellent option and Robinson a good deputy. But with Aurelio's injury record, we need a new 1st choice LB.

I believe these two positions (plus width) are all we absolutely had to sort this summer. Anything else is just a bonus.

If there was any faith that Agger would remain fit for a sustained period of time then we would have sufficient (great cover) across the backline with the names already mentioned.

Multiple FB options in Johnson, Flanno, Robinson & Kelly (ruling out Aurelio as think he should be moved)
Multiple CB options in Carra, Skrtel, Agger, Krygiakos and Kelly.

Stating the obvious here but you can never have too many good players/options in a squad and if we were to add a Cissokho/Enrique for FB and a Cahill/Dann at CB then I would welcome that. The issue then may be keeping all the players happy...

Many forget the superb 2nd half to last season that Skrtel had. OK he is still a bit raw but he has come on leaps and bounds IMO.
