Liverpool FC transfer gossip today sees Brendan Rodgers receive a boost in his long-term chase of Southampton and England defender Nathaniel Clyne.

Rodgers is a known admirer of Clyne, who has impressed for the Saints all season and has yet to commit his long-term future to the club.

This has led to Saints boss Ronald Koeman reigniting his interest in Leeds defender Sam Byram.

Should Southampton land the 21-year-old Byram that would open the door for Liverpool to swoop for Clyne in the summer.

Liverpool and Arsenal target Ignacio Camacho is going nowhere this month, according to Malaga's sporting director Mario Husillos.

Both Premier League clubs are in the market for defensive midfielders and have been linked with tough-tackling 'Nacho' Camacho.

Husillos has revealed that offers have been made for the Spain international, 24, but he says Malaga will resist selling him during the January window.

"There are offers for Camacho," he told Canal Plus. "He is a national team player and a luxury that we are enjoying.

"Big European teams have asked about him, but in this market he is not going to leave.

"[I hope that he] stays for many years, he has a contract for four more seasons. For a long time we have been with the murmur that goes on and on here. When the big teams of Europe ask about him, there will be a reason."

Arsenal, Liverpool and Everton are among the cluster of clubs who have checked on Leeds starlet Sam Byram.

Leeds rejected a £4.5m bid from Southampton in the summer for Byram, who can play at right-back or right midfield, but are unlikely to be able to rebuff a similar offer now due to financial pressures.

Byram, 21, is highly-regarded and was watched by a number of top flight scouts in Saturday's draw with Birmingham.

He has established himself in the first team at Elland Road after making his debut in 2012.

Byram has made 91 appearences for the club and found the back of the net three times.

Shakhtar Donestsk boss Mircea Lucescu believes that Borussia Dortmund's Henrikh Mkhitaryan is a more complete player than Galatasaray's Wesley Sneijder.

Both players have been linked to Juventus in January, but Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly interested in Mkhitaryan and Sneijder is said to be on Manchester United's radar.

Lucescu worked with Mkhitaryan at Shakhtar and believes that the Armenian international now needs a move to revitalise his career.

And he has backed the 25-year-old to be a better investment than Sneijder, particularly if he makes the move to Juventus.

He told Tuttosport: "It was hard to see him leave Shakhtar for Dortmund, but we still have a great relationship.

"It would not surprise me if he were to join Juventus. He is a guy who needs to feel affection and there's too much pressure on him at Dortmund. I think his cycle at Dortmund is over.

"He would be great behind Fernando Llorente and Carlos Tevez.

"Mkhitaryan is much quicker and runs more than Sneijder.

"He is a complete player. He creates chances, wins back balls and always keeps on going. It is important for him to find the right environment again."

Inter Milan are ready to sell Chelsea and Liverpool target Mauro Icardi this month.

The Italian giants opened contract negotiations with the Argentine striker late last week, but reports claim that talks have broken down.

Icardi is believed to want a significant wage increase, but with finances tight at the San Siro, Roberto Mancini is not prepared to sign-off on the lucrative extension.

Sources in Italy are now reporting that Inter will instead look to sell the forward following the arrivals of Arsenal's Lukas Podolski and Bayern Munich's Xherdan Shaqiri.

The revelation has put Chelsea and Liverpool on red alert, with both Jose Mourinho and Brendan Rodgers keen to bring Icardi to the Premier League.

Didier Drogba is set to hang his boots up at the end of the season, and after missing out on Andrej Kramaric to Leicester, Mourinho is determined to bring a top young striker to Stamford Bridge.

Rodgers, on the other hand, has a plethora of attacking options at Anfield, but with no-one yet to fill the boots of Luis Suarez, the Ulsterman is keen to pair Icardi with the nearly-fit Daniel Sturridge.

Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool have been told that they may need to act this month to land PSV starlet Memphis Depay.

Depay was compared to Cristiano Ronaldo following some impressive performances at the World Cup and has continued to excel in the Eredivisie this term.

And while the player has insisted that he wants to remain with PSV at least until the end of the season and possibly stick around to play in the Champions League next term.

But reports in Italy suggest that the decision may be taken out of the 20-year-old's hand.

A source close to PSV told FootMercato: "He is being tracked after his successful World Cup and performances for PSV.

"Many clubs have made approaches for him next summer but something could still happen this winter.

"The big four English clubs are very interested. So are the five German clubs with the best budgets and also Fenerbahce.

"PSG are very interested in him and Memphis appreciates Paris. He would be happy to join such a big club."

Liverpool are ready to show their hand by making an offer for in-demand Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette.

The 23-year-old has piqued the interest of a plethora of Premier League clubs including Arsenal and Manchester City after rattling home 20 goals so far this season.

Although Liverpool's interest seemed to have cooled recently, reports in France indicate the Anfield outfit will lodge an offer for Lacazette soon.

Lacazette has been tipped to make a £15m move, although it is unclear as of yet what Liverpool's opening bid could be.

It is thought that should Liverpool prove unsuccessful in landing Lacazette, they will push hard to sign £40m rated Karim Benzema in the summer.

Lacazette is highly regarded by Lyon, with the club's president Jean-Michel Aulas claiming he is better than Gareth Bale.

"What's the name of the Welshman at Real Madrid? I think Alexandre is a lot better," Aulas recently told Le Parisien.

"But Alexandre doesn't have a price, so it's pointless thinking of one."

James Milner appears to be edging closer towards the Etihad exit door, with contract talks reaching an impasse according to reports.

The 29-year-old will be a free agent in the summer, and as Express Sport exclusively revealed on Boxing Day, Brendan Rodgers wants to bring Milner to Anfield.

Arsenal have also been keeping a tab with Arsene Wenger keen to provide some steel to his midfield.

The Guardian claims Milner could leave the Citizens in the summer, with both parties still quite a way off reaching an agreement.

They claim that Milner is frustrated with his lack of playing time, and he suffered the ignominy of being substituted at half-time in the 2-0 home defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.

Milner, who has also attracted interest from Inter Milan and Roma, can sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs, but this must be sorted out before the end of the current window.

Milner joined City in a £26m move from Aston Villa in 2010.

Liverpool are set to dip into the transfer market in the coming days with a bid for Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette, according to reports in France.

The Reds were linked with the hotshot forward before this month's transfer window, but talk has died down in recent weeks.

However, according to French outlet Le10Sport, Brendan Rodgers is now ready to table an offer for the in-form 23-year-old, who has hit an impressive 23 goals in as many games for Lyon this term.

Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be keeping a close eye on Lacazette's situation and could be ready to rival Liverpool should they move for the striker.

It is unclear how much the Reds would need to spend to add the youngster to their squad this month, with any interest from PSG likely to drive the price skywards.

But Rodgers is thought to be determined to add to his strikeforce before the transfer window closes.

Good player, but not sure we can add another striker, without off loading the dross first...

Liverpool are set to offer Real Madrid £38.1million to sign Karim Benzema after reportedly 'going all out' to sign the striker.

The Reds, who have struggled for goals this term, have made signing a world class forward their top transfer priority.

And according to claims in Spain, Benzema is their number one choice - with a £38.1million deal to sign the Frenchman at the end of the season being talked up.

Liverpool made an approach for Benzema in the summer only for the transfer to end up collapsing, but they are more hopeful a switch can be agreed this time around.
